A two-player starter pack from JOOLA carrying Ben Johns’s signature: two paddles, four balls and a carry bag.
The genuinely useful thing about this set is the balls. It ships with two 26-hole indoor balls and two 40-hole outdoor balls – which means you can play in a gym or on an outdoor court without a second purchase, and it lets a new player feel the difference for themselves. Indoor balls have larger holes and softer plastic, so they are slower, quieter and easier to control on a smooth floor. Outdoor balls have smaller holes and harder plastic, because an outdoor ball has to hold its line in wind and survive a rough surface. Using an indoor ball outdoors cracks it quickly.
The paddles are fibreglass-faced over a polymer honeycomb core, which is the standard entry-level construction. Fibreglass flexes more than carbon, so it is forgiving and comfortable; carbon is stiffer, more precise and grips the ball harder for spin. For two people learning the game, fibreglass is the right choice.
The bag holds both paddles and the four balls and has a front mesh accessory pocket.
Two honest points. This is a recreational set, not a performance one – JOOLA publish no UPA-A or USA Pickleball approval for these paddles, so do not plan on using them in a sanctioned event. And JOOLA publish no weight, grip size or core thickness for the set, so we do not quote any.
