About this product

Naturehike sell this as the PeakLite L02, model CNH22JU050. It is a mini egg-roll table: the top is a set of 6063 aluminium slats that roll up, the legs fold into a cross-braced frame, and the whole thing drops into a stuff sack about the size of a 500 ml water bottle sleeve, 29 x 14 cm, at 1 kg.

The numbers that matter are the ratio. One kilogram of table holds 50 kg, because the load goes through the X cross-brace and the plug-in leg fixings rather than through the top. That is enough for a full stove setup, a kettle and a stack of plates on a table you can hang off a pack.

Set up is four steps: open the base bracket, click the connector, unroll the tabletop, drop the board onto the frame. Non-slip foot covers on the legs deal with rock, decking and groundsheets.

Open it is 40.5 x 29 cm at 30.5 cm high, so it is a side table and a cook platform rather than a dining table. We stock it in champagne gold; Naturehike also make it in a pine green.

Good to know

Is the top really aluminium and not wood or MDF?

Aluminium. The slats are 6063 aluminium alloy, the same grade as the frame. There is no board and nothing to swell or delaminate if it gets wet.

How does a 1 kg table hold 50 kg?

The weight goes down through the X cross-brace and into the legs, which plug into the base bracket rather than hinging. The slatted top spreads the load across the frame. Naturehike rate it at 110 lb.

How big is it really?

40.5 x 29 cm, 30.5 cm high. That is a side table beside a chair, or a platform for a stove and a kettle. It is not a table to eat a meal for four around - look at the Nest Creek or the egg roll tables for that.

Can I put my stove on it?

Yes, with a trivet or heat mat under a burner. Aluminium conducts heat, so a burner sitting straight on the slats will get the top very hot and can discolour it.

How long does it take to pack away?

Under a minute. Lift the top off, roll the slats, fold the frame, both into the stuff sack.

What colour do you stock?

Champagne gold, a light warm tan. Naturehike also make a pine green version of the same table.
