Highlights

Heavy braid, round profile

At this strength the line spends its life against coral and under heavy drag. A round, tightly braided eight-strand handles both far better than a flat four-strand does.

8-strand construction

Eight finer strands braid rounder and smoother than a 4-strand, so it casts further and runs quieter.

PE 6.0 at 80 lb

Japanese ultra-high-strength PE fibre in a genuinely heavy rating.

High abrasion resistance

Built for fishing around reef, rock and structure, where heavy braid earns its price.

300 m spool

Fills most 6000 to 10000 size reels, or tops up a bigger one over backing.

About this product

Noeby Infinite Braided Line – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

Heavy braid is a different proposition from light braid. At PE 6.0 you are fishing drag settings that put real load through everything in the system, usually within reach of coral, and usually on fish that go somewhere the moment they are hooked. The line has to survive all of that.

The Noeby Infinite X8 uses eight strands of ultra-high-strength Japanese PE fibre. The eight-strand construction matters more at this end of the range than at the light end: more, finer fibres braid into a rounder and tighter line, which resists abrasion better, lays on a big spool more evenly, and runs through heavy guides with much less friction and noise than a four-strand of the same rating.

This spool is PE 6.0 at 80 lb over 300 metres, which puts it in offshore jigging, popping and heavy shore work – kingfish, GT, tuna, amberjack and grouper on the reef edges and drop-offs. A 300 m spool fills most 6000 to 10000 size reels, or tops up a larger one over backing.

Two practical points. First, a heavy braid needs a heavy leader – two to three metres of 100 to 200 lb fluorocarbon or mono, joined with an FG or PR knot – both for abrasion resistance and because braid is very visible in clear water. Second, back the drag off: braid has no stretch, so the drag is the only shock absorber in the outfit, and a setting that felt right on mono will pull hooks.

Questions

Good to know

What does PE 6.0 mean?

PE is the Japanese line-diameter scale used for braid - a higher number is a thicker line. It describes thickness rather than strength, which is why the pound rating is quoted alongside. This spool is PE 6.0 at 80 lb.

What reel size suits it?

A 8000 to 14000 size reel is the usual match at this line class, on a popping or jigging rod rated to suit. Fill the spool to within a couple of millimetres of the lip - an underfilled spool costs real casting distance.

What leader should I use with it?

Two to three metres of heavy fluorocarbon or mono, joined with an FG or PR knot. At this line class that usually means 100 to 200 lb leader. Braid has poor abrasion resistance against coral and is very visible in clear water; the leader solves both.

Why buy a 1000 m bulk spool?

Cost per metre, principally. A bulk spool fills several reels or fills one large reel with a lot left in reserve, and works out far cheaper than buying short spools. It is what most boats and serious anglers do.

Should I change my drag setting?

Yes, downwards. Braid has no stretch, so the drag is the only shock absorber in the outfit. A setting that felt right on mono will pull hooks and break leaders with braid.

What knots should I use?

FG or PR to join braid to leader - both are slim enough to pass through guides on a cast. Palomar or uni to tie braid to terminal tackle. Never a clinch knot; it slips on braid. Wet every knot before tightening.

How long does heavy braid last?

Several seasons with care. When the first 10 to 20 metres go fluffy from abrasion, cut that off rather than replacing the spool, or reverse the line so the unused end comes into play.

How do I look after it?

Rinse the reel and line with fresh water after sea use and let it dry with the drag backed off. After fishing coral, run the first few metres through your fingers and cut back to clean line.
