Highlights

Batteries, not charging

The advantage of disposable cells over a rechargeable unit is that it works after six months in a drawer. A rechargeable bidet left unused is a flat bidet; this one takes a fresh set of cells and runs.

Battery operated

Ready after months unused. Nothing to remember to charge.

Handheld and ergonomic

Sized to hold and direct comfortably.

Works anywhere with clean water

Hotels, guesthouses, campsites, long drives.

Simple

No charging port to corrode, no battery to degrade with age.

Product description

About this product

The choice between this and the rechargeable version comes down to how often you will use it. A rechargeable unit is better for regular travel. A battery unit is better for something kept in a bag for occasional use, because it works after six months in a drawer – whereas a rechargeable one left that long is flat when you need it.
There is a second, quieter advantage. A rechargeable battery degrades whether you use it or not, and the charging port is one more thing to corrode in coastal humidity. Replaceable cells sidestep both.
You supply the water, so use clean water. Rinse the nozzle before and after use and let it dry rather than storing it damp – a hose put away wet in this climate will grow something.
Take the batteries out if it is going into storage for months. A leaking cell in a humid cupboard will destroy the contacts and the unit with them.
Battery type, count and runtime are still with the supplier. We will publish them here when we have them rather than guessing.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Why would I want a portable bidet?

Because a great many bathrooms do not have one, and plenty of public and roadside facilities have no water available at the toilet at all. A portable unit means the standard you keep at home travels with you - on a long drive upcountry, at a campsite, in a hotel or guesthouse that has no shattaf fitted.

Where does the water come from?

You supply it. A tankless unit draws through a hose that you drop into any bottle or bucket of clean water; a tank model carries its own. Either way it is your water, so use clean water - the same water you would be willing to wash your hands in.

Is it hygienic to share?

Rinse the nozzle before and after each use and let it dry rather than storing it wet. Within a household that is reasonable practice. For a unit going between unrelated people, each person should really have their own nozzle - and any unit stored damp in Dar es Salaam humidity will grow something in the hose.

Can I take it on a plane?

The device itself is fine. It must be emptied completely first - both for the liquids rule at security and because a sealed container of water in an aircraft hold will push its contents out under pressure. If it has a rechargeable lithium battery, it travels in your cabin bag, not in checked luggage.

Does it need batteries?

Digital scales run on a small cell. Check it before a trip rather than at the front door on the way to the airport, and take the battery out if the scale is going into storage for months - a leaking cell in this humidity will destroy the contacts.

Does humidity affect a sewing kit?

Steel needles and pins rust in coastal air, particularly stored in a closed case that was put away damp. Keep the case dry, and if the kit lives in a bag that gets wet, open it out and let it air.
