For the seat that will not take your plug

Some aircraft still have the old two-prong armrest socket, and a standard headphone plug simply will not fit it. This converts between the two, so the headphones you brought are usable rather than decorative.

Twin-prong to 3.5 mm

Fits the legacy armrest socket that defeats modern headphones.

Plug and play

No power, no pairing, no settings.

Works with any 3.5 mm headphones

Wired earbuds through to over-ear.

Costs almost nothing to carry

Weighs nothing and lives in a cable pouch.

Product description

About this product

Older aircraft cabins use a twin-prong headphone socket in the armrest – two small pins side by side rather than a single round jack. A standard 3.5 mm headphone plug does not fit it at all. If you have ever boarded with good headphones and discovered they were useless, this is why.
The adapter converts between the two. There is nothing to charge, nothing to pair and nothing to configure: it changes the plug shape and passes the audio through.
You need it less often than you once did. Most aircraft on routes out of Julius Nyerere now fit a single 3.5 mm jack, and newer cabins on the Gulf carriers increasingly have Bluetooth in the seat. But it is small and cheap, and the flight where you need one is always the long one.
It pairs naturally with our Bluetooth transmitter: twin-prong socket into this adapter, this into the transmitter, and your wireless earbuds work on an aircraft that was built before either existed.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Do I actually need this any more?

Less often than you used to, and it depends on the aircraft rather than the airline. The twin-prong socket is a legacy fitting that survives on older cabins. Most aircraft flying out of Dar es Salaam now use a single 3.5 mm jack, and newer cabins increasingly have Bluetooth in the seat. It is cheap insurance for the flight where your headphones otherwise do not fit.

Will it work with any headphones?

Anything with a standard 3.5 mm plug, including wired earbuds and over-ear headphones. Noise-cancelling headphones that need their own power will still need their battery charged - the adapter only changes the plug shape, it does not carry power.

How much is excess baggage out of Dar es Salaam?

It varies by airline and route, but it is always charged per kilogram at the desk and it is always more than you expect - frequently more than the item you are carrying is worth. Weighing at home is the entire point of a luggage scale.

Does the heat here affect them?

A car boot in Dar es Salaam gets far hotter than the air outside, and heat both thins liquids and raises pressure inside a closed bottle. Do not leave decanted toiletries in a parked car, and open one slowly if it has been in one.

Does humidity affect a sewing kit?

Steel needles and pins rust in coastal air, particularly stored in a closed case that was put away damp. Keep the case dry, and if the kit lives in a bag that gets wet, open it out and let it air.

How accurate is a hanging luggage scale?

Read the two numbers separately. Display resolution is how finely it reads - often 10 g. Accuracy is how close that reading is to the truth, and on a hanging scale it is realistically within a few hundred grams. That is ample for checking you are under 23 kg. Do not expect it to settle an argument over 50 g.
