Highlights

Under your shirt, not in your pocket

A neck wallet works because it is against your body and under your clothing. Nobody bumps into it, nobody reaches it, and it cannot be put down on a counter and forgotten - which is how most passports are actually lost.

Holds several passports

Sized for a family, not one document.

Worn under clothing

On your body, not in a bag that can be set down or snatched.

Water-resistant oxford

Sweat and rain kept off documents, which matters in this climate.

RFID-blocking lining

A reasonable precaution - read our honest note on what it is worth.

Product description

About this product

A neck pouch solves the real way travel documents go missing, which is almost never theft: it is putting them down. On a check-in counter, in a seat pocket, on a hotel reception desk. Something worn under your shirt cannot be left behind.
It holds several passports plus cards and boarding passes, so one person can carry the family’s documents through an airport rather than four people each hoping they still have theirs.
The oxford fabric is water-resistant, and in Dar es Salaam that is not about rain so much as perspiration. A passport worn against the body all day in this heat gets damp, and damp passports cockle, run and eventually get questioned at a border. A water-resistant pouch is doing real work.
On RFID blocking: it is a genuine feature and it is oversold everywhere. Contactless cards use one-time codes that cannot simply be replayed, and e-passport chips are encrypted against readers that have not seen the printed page. The blocking does no harm and costs nothing. Buy the pouch for the pockets and the fact that it sits under your shirt.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Does RFID blocking actually protect me?

Partly, and it is oversold across the whole industry - so here is the honest version. Modern contactless cards send a one-time code per transaction, so a skimmed reading cannot simply be replayed, and documented cases of real-world contactless skimming are rare. E-passport chips are encrypted and need the printed details inside the passport before a reader can decrypt them. RFID blocking is a reasonable precaution, not the danger everyone selling it implies. Buy this for the pockets and the neck strap; treat the blocking as a bonus.

What is the actual benefit if it does not save weight?

You stop unpacking your whole case to find one shirt. That is it, and it is enough. Everything has a home, a security check does not turn your bag into chaos, and you can lift one cube out at a hotel and put it in a drawer. On a multi-stop trip - Dar, then Zanzibar, then Arusha - it is the difference between living out of a case and repacking it three times.

Can I store clothes compressed in this climate?

Not for long, and this matters more in Dar es Salaam than almost anywhere. Compression traps whatever humidity was in the fabric when you sealed it, with no airflow to carry it away. Clothes packed slightly damp and compressed for a week will come out smelling, and given long enough they will grow mould. Pack bone dry, and unpack at the other end rather than leaving things sealed.

Do the zips last?

The zip is where a packing cube fails, because compression cubes are asked to hold fabric under tension every time. Do not force a zip closed over an overstuffed cube - that is what splits the tape away from the fabric. If it does not close with firm steady pressure, take something out.

Can I wash them?

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap and air dry them fully. Machine washing is hard on the zips and the mesh. Wash them when they need it - a cube that has carried worn clothes home from a week away is not clean just because it looks it.

Are they useful on upcountry trips?

Very. Fine red dust gets into everything on murram roads, and a zipped cube inside a case keeps clean clothes genuinely clean. The same applies on a boat to Zanzibar, where salt spray finds its way into an open bag.
