Product description

About this product

The tracker pocket is the reason to choose this over a plain document wallet. It is sized and positioned so a tag sits flat and out of sight, rather than loose in a compartment where it works its way to the bottom or falls out when you pull a passport.
It carries three ways. In the hand like a folder, on the wrist by the wristlet when you need both hands at a counter, or crossbody on the strap through an airport. The crossbody option is the one that matters – a document wallet you are wearing cannot be left on a check-in desk.
Inside there are separate compartments for passports, cards and boarding passes, plus a zipped pouch for coins and keys. Keeping currency separate from documents is worth the effort when you are moving between shillings and dollars.
One realistic note about trackers in this country. An AirTag has no GPS and no SIM – it reports its location through nearby iPhones. That works well at Julius Nyerere, in a Masaki hotel or a mall, and it thins out fast on an upcountry road. Useful for a bag misplaced in a building; not a tracker for the bush.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Will an AirTag work properly in Tanzania?

This is worth understanding before you rely on it. An AirTag has no GPS and no SIM - it reports its position by borrowing passing iPhones, so it is only as good as the density of iPhones around it. In Europe or the Gulf that is near-total coverage. In Dar es Salaam it works reasonably in malls, hotels and the airport where there are iPhones about, and it thins out quickly upcountry. On a rural road it may not report for hours. It is genuinely useful for a bag left in a hotel or lost in an airport; it is not a tracker for the bush.

What is the actual benefit if it does not save weight?

You stop unpacking your whole case to find one shirt. That is it, and it is enough. Everything has a home, a security check does not turn your bag into chaos, and you can lift one cube out at a hotel and put it in a drawer. On a multi-stop trip - Dar, then Zanzibar, then Arusha - it is the difference between living out of a case and repacking it three times.

Can I store clothes compressed in this climate?

Not for long, and this matters more in Dar es Salaam than almost anywhere. Compression traps whatever humidity was in the fabric when you sealed it, with no airflow to carry it away. Clothes packed slightly damp and compressed for a week will come out smelling, and given long enough they will grow mould. Pack bone dry, and unpack at the other end rather than leaving things sealed.

Do the zips last?

The zip is where a packing cube fails, because compression cubes are asked to hold fabric under tension every time. Do not force a zip closed over an overstuffed cube - that is what splits the tape away from the fabric. If it does not close with firm steady pressure, take something out.

Can I wash them?

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap and air dry them fully. Machine washing is hard on the zips and the mesh. Wash them when they need it - a cube that has carried worn clothes home from a week away is not clean just because it looks it.

Are they useful on upcountry trips?

Very. Fine red dust gets into everything on murram roads, and a zipped cube inside a case keeps clean clothes genuinely clean. The same applies on a boat to Zanzibar, where salt spray finds its way into an open bag.
