Heavy braid is a different proposition from light braid. At PE 7.0 you are fishing drag settings that put real load through everything in the system, usually within reach of coral, and usually on fish that go somewhere the moment they are hooked. The line has to survive all of that.
The Noeby Infinite X8 uses eight strands of ultra-high-strength Japanese PE fibre. The eight-strand construction matters more at this end of the range than at the light end: more, finer fibres braid into a rounder and tighter line, which resists abrasion better, lays on a big spool more evenly, and runs through heavy guides with much less friction and noise than a four-strand of the same rating.
This spool is PE 7.0 at 93 lb over 1000 metres, which puts it in offshore jigging, popping and heavy shore work – kingfish, GT, tuna, amberjack and grouper on the reef edges and drop-offs. A 1000 m bulk spool fills several reels, or fills one large reel with plenty left over – and works out far cheaper per metre than a 300 m spool.
Two practical points. First, a heavy braid needs a heavy leader – two to three metres of 100 to 200 lb fluorocarbon or mono, joined with an FG or PR knot – both for abrasion resistance and because braid is very visible in clear water. Second, back the drag off: braid has no stretch, so the drag is the only shock absorber in the outfit, and a setting that felt right on mono will pull hooks.
