Braided line changed fishing because it does two things monofilament cannot. It is far thinner for the same breaking strain, so you fit much more on a spool and cast much further, and it barely stretches at all, so you feel everything and your hook-set arrives at the fish instead of being absorbed by the line.
The number of strands is what separates one braid from another. A four-strand braid is cheaper and more abrasive; an eight-strand uses eight finer fibres, which braid into a rounder, smoother line. That roundness matters in practice: it lays on the spool more evenly, runs quieter through the guides, and casts further because there is less friction.
The Noeby Infinite X8 uses ultra-high-strength PE fibre imported from Japan. This spool is PE 2.0, rated at 29 lb, on 150 metres. That puts it in general inshore lure fishing – queenfish, barracuda, small trevally, snapper and kingfish from the rocks, a jetty or a small boat, and Nile perch and tigerfish inland.
Two things to know if you are new to braid. It has no stretch and no memory, so tie a proper braid knot – an FG or PR knot to a leader, and a Palomar or uni to terminal tackle – and always run a fluorocarbon or mono leader, both for abrasion resistance and because braid is highly visible in clear water. And back off your drag: with no stretch in the line, the drag is the only shock absorber in the system.
