Highlights

A framed 45-litre pack at just over a kilo

An aluminium frame and an EVA back panel usually cost you weight. This one carries 11 kg properly and still weighs 1.06 kg empty.

1.06 kg with a frame

Most framed 45 litre packs weigh half again as much. This one keeps the frame and the hip transfer without the penalty.

40 litres plus 5

An expandable top pocket adds 5 litres when a trip runs long, so the same pack handles a day hike and an overnight.

Aluminium frame and EVA back

The frame moves the load onto your hips and the EVA panel shapes to your back, which is what makes a load carry rather than hang.

Rain cover in the base

Stored at the bottom of the pack and over it in seconds. No extra purchase, nothing to forget at home.

Product description

About this product

Naturehike Rock Series Backpack – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

There is usually a trade between a framed pack that carries well and a light pack that does not. The Rock Series 40+5 gets closer to having both than most: an aluminium alloy frame with an EVA back panel, rated to carry 11 kg, in a pack that weighs 1.06 kg empty. Framed packs of this capacity are commonly half again as heavy.

The frame is doing real work. It transfers the load down onto the padded waist belt rather than leaving it hanging from your shoulders, and the EVA panel shapes to your back so the weight sits where you can carry it. A mesh layer over the panel keeps air moving, which on a humid climb through the Tanzanian forest belt matters as much as the frame does.

Capacity is 40 litres in the main compartment with a 5 litre expandable top pocket – the extra room for a trip that runs a day longer than planned. Storage is well laid out: a front pocket, water bottle holders on both sides, and waist belt pockets for the things you want without taking the pack off.

The fabric is 420D nylon, tear and abrasion resistant, and a waterproof rain cover is stored in the base of the pack. It measures 26 x 18 x 56 cm. It suits day hikes, overnight trips, Kilimanjaro and Meru where porters carry the camp gear, and travel where a pack has to carry properly without weighing much itself.

Questions

Good to know

Is 11 kg a low maximum load?

For a pack weighing 1.06 kg it is a fair rating, and 11 kg is a realistic day-hike or supported-trek load. If you are carrying a full camping kit, our 55 litre pack is built for heavier loads.

What does the aluminium frame do?

It transfers the weight down onto your hip belt instead of leaving it on your shoulders. That is the difference between a pack you carry all day and one you keep shrugging.

What is the 5 litre extension for?

A top pocket that expands when a trip runs longer than planned, or when you are carrying a jacket and food that will be eaten by the afternoon.

Is the rain cover included?

Yes, stored in the base of the pack. Nothing to buy separately and nothing to forget at home.

How do I fit it?

Tighten the waist belt first on the top of your hip bones, then the shoulder straps, then the load lifters. Come to the Dar es Salaam showroom and we will fit it loaded.

Will my back sweat?

Less than with a solid panel. The mesh over the EVA back panel keeps air moving, which is the feature that matters most on a climb here.

Is it good for Kilimanjaro?

Yes, it is a sensible size for a supported climb where porters carry the camp gear - light, framed, and with the rain cover built in.

Do you deliver to Moshi and Arusha?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania and send packs to Moshi and Arusha regularly for Kilimanjaro climbs. Message us for cost and timing.
