A Slazenger driver with a steel shaft, 10.5 degrees of loft and a 44.5 inch club length, in regular flex.

A note on the name: Slazenger now sell this club as the VS Golf Driver Steel Shaft. V300 is the legacy name it was launched under and it survives in product codes and older listings, so you will see both. They are the same club, code 872034.

The specification suits exactly the player it is aimed at. 10.5 degrees is a forgiving loft – more loft launches the ball higher and reduces sidespin, which straightens out the slice most developing golfers fight. 44.5 inches is slightly shorter than the 45 inch graphite version, and a shorter driver is easier to control and easier to find the middle of, which is worth more to most players than the fraction of a mile per hour of head speed they give up.

Slazenger cite a high rebound face and what they call Speed Channel Technology for off-centre strikes. The grip is TPR in standard size.

Two things worth knowing before you order. The steel-shaft version is right-handed only – Slazenger offer a left-handed option in the graphite version, not this one. Is it available left-handed?

Not in the steel shaft version - 872034 is right-handed only. Slazenger do offer a left-handed option in the graphite version of the same driver. Tell us if you play left-handed and we will look into sourcing that instead.

Is V300 or VS the right name?

They are the same club. Slazenger launched it as the V300 and now list it as the VS Golf Driver Steel Shaft. The legacy name survives in product codes and older listings, so you will see both.

Steel or graphite shaft?

Steel is heavier, cheaper and more durable, and it transmits more feedback. Graphite is lighter, which helps a slower swing generate head speed, and it damps mishits. If you swing hard and want feedback, steel. If you are developing your swing, graphite is usually the kinder choice.

Is 10.5 degrees the right loft for me?

For most amateurs, yes. More loft launches higher and cuts sidespin, which straightens a slice - and a slice is what most developing golfers are fighting. Lower lofts suit high swing speeds and consistent strikes, and punish everyone else.

What head size is it?

Slazenger do not publish a head volume or head material for this driver, and we are not going to invent either. If the figure matters to you, ask us and we will measure the stock.

Why is it shorter than the graphite version?

44.5 inches against 45. A shorter driver is easier to control and easier to strike from the middle, and for most players that is worth more than the tiny amount of head speed a longer shaft adds.
