About this product

PGM’s ST002 glove, in cabretta leather – the premium hair-sheep leather that quality golf gloves are made from, chosen because it is thin enough to feel the grip through and soft enough not to fight the hand.

This is the left-hand glove: it fits the left hand, which means it is the glove a right-handed golfer wears.

That relationship confuses more orders than anything else in golf, so it is worth being explicit about. The glove goes on the lead hand – the one at the top of the grip. A right-handed golfer’s lead hand is the left; a left-handed golfer’s is the right. The lead hand is what resists the club trying to pull free at the bottom of the swing, which is where blisters and calluses form, and where a glove earns its place. The trailing hand stays bare because it is the feel hand.

The palm carries anti-slip grain, the back is PU leather with engineered perforations for ventilation, and the wrist closes with an adjustable hook-and-loop tab over an elastic band.

Which hand does the glove go on?

The lead hand - the one at the TOP of the grip. For a right-handed golfer that is the LEFT hand; for a left-handed golfer it is the right. The lead hand takes the force that tries to pull the club out at the bottom of the swing, which is where blisters form. The trailing hand stays bare because it is the feel hand.

So is this the glove for me?

If you play right-handed, yes - this glove fits your left hand, which is your lead hand. If you play left-handed, you want the other one. When in doubt: the glove goes on the hand at the TOP of the grip.

What size should I order?

What is cabretta leather?

Leather from hair sheep rather than wool sheep. It is thinner, stronger and more supple than ordinary sheepskin, which is why it is the standard material for quality golf gloves - you feel the grip through it and it moves with the hand rather than resisting it.

Do I take it off to putt?

Most golfers do. Putting is entirely about feel and there is no force trying to pull the club out of your hand, so a glove costs you feedback without giving anything back. It also lets the glove dry out between greens, which matters here.

How do I look after it in this heat?

Take it off between shots rather than leaving it on in the sun - sweat and heat harden leather fast. Smooth it flat to dry rather than stuffing it crumpled into a bag pocket, because leather dries in whatever shape you leave it. Never dry it in direct sun.

How long does a glove last?

Anywhere from a dozen rounds to a season, depending on how much you play and how quickly it dries between rounds. In this humidity, having two gloves and alternating them makes both last considerably longer than one used every time.

How do I look after the clubs?

Brush the faces after each shot and wipe the shafts down at the end of a round. Wash grips with warm water and washing-up liquid every few weeks - grip performance degrades from skin oils and sunscreen more than from wear. Dry everything before it goes back in the bag.
