Highlights

See out across 270 degrees. Nothing sees in.

One-way see-through mesh means you watch the whole approach without a gap to peer through - and without the movement that gives a hide away.

270 degrees of one-way mesh

A near-panoramic view from inside while the outside reads as solid camouflage. No shuffling around to find a gap.

Pop-up hub frame

Up in minutes and down almost as fast, so you can move to a better position instead of committing to a bad one.

Three silent sliding windows

Open and close without the rasp of a zip, which is what usually gives a hide away at exactly the wrong moment.

Room for one to four

Space for a couple of people plus cameras, scopes and gear, rather than a single-person box you cannot move in.

Product description

About this product

Up Camouflage Ground Hide – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The old problem with a hide is that you are shut in a box with a couple of slits. You cannot see what is approaching from the side, so you shuffle around to check – and the movement is exactly what gives you away. This one is built around one-way see-through mesh covering 270 degrees: from inside you have a near-panoramic view of everything around you, and from outside the fabric reads as solid camouflage.

Getting it up is a pop-up hub system, the same principle as an instant tent – it goes from bag to standing in a few minutes and folds down almost as quickly. That matters more than it sounds, because a hide you can move is a hide you will reposition when the wind shifts or the animals use a different path, rather than sitting all day in the wrong place.

Three sliding windows let you aim, shoot or photograph, and they slide rather than unzip. A zip is the loudest thing on most hides and the sound carries exactly when you need it not to. Inside there is room for one to four people with cameras, spotting scopes and gear – enough space to sit properly through a long wait.

The shell is weather-resistant camouflage Oxford cloth, so rain and wind are handled, with a heavy-duty hub frame and reinforced corners. It suits hunting, wildlife photography, birdwatching, field research and filming – anywhere in Tanzania you need to be present without being noticed.

Questions

Good to know

How does one-way mesh work?

It relies on light. The outside is brighter than the inside, so from outside the mesh reads as opaque camouflage while from inside you see through it. It works best when the interior is kept dark - avoid bright clothing and keep torches off.

How long does it take to put up?

A few minutes. It is a hub-frame pop-up, the same principle as an instant tent - open the bag, spread the hubs and peg it down. Taking it down is almost as quick.

Will it hold up in rain and wind?

The Oxford shell is weather resistant and the frame is a heavy-duty hub design with reinforced corners. Peg it properly and guy it out in exposed positions - any pop-up structure catches wind.

Is there really room for four people?

Four at a squeeze with minimal gear. Realistically it is comfortable for two people with cameras and scopes, which is how most people use it.

Why sliding windows rather than zips?

Because zips are loud. A zip opening is the sound that most often gives a hide away at the moment an animal comes into range. Sliding panels open silently.

Can I use it for wildlife photography rather than hunting?

Absolutely, and many of our customers do. The 270 degree view and the silent windows are as useful for a long lens as for anything else.

Do I need a licence to hunt in Tanzania?

Hunting in Tanzania is regulated - it requires the correct permits and takes place in designated hunting blocks, and firearms are separately licensed. This is support equipment rather than a firearm, but please make sure your paperwork is in order. Many of our customers buy kit like this for photography and wildlife observation instead.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania - Arusha, Moshi, Iringa, Mbeya and elsewhere. Message us with your location for cost and timing.
