About this product
A three-metre indoor putting mat with a dual-track layout and an automatic ball return.
A note on the name first, because it causes confusion: the 3 m refers to the mat’s length, not to the 3M company. It is a three-metre mat.
Dual-track means two parallel lanes running the length of the mat. They do two jobs at once. As targets, two holes of different difficulty let you work on both a tap-in stroke and a longer, more demanding one without moving anything. As rails, they frame the putter path so you can see immediately whether your stroke is travelling straight back and straight through – which is the single most useful piece of feedback a putting mat can give.
The return channel rolls the ball back to your feet. That sounds like a convenience and it is actually the reason these mats get used: a mat where you have to walk three metres to collect every ball gets rolled up after a week.
Three metres is a sensible practice length. Most putts that decide a round are inside three metres, and it is the range where a repeatable stroke pays off most. It also fits down a hallway or a veranda, which a longer mat does not.
The supplier quotes weights of around 3.2 kg for the 250 cm version and 4 kg for the 300 cm – those are their figures rather than ones we have verified on a scale.
