About this product
A 55-inch foosball table with drink holders.
Foosball earns its place in a games room for a reason that is easy to miss: it is one of the few games where a child, a parent and a grandparent can play each other competitively. It rewards wrist speed, anticipation and reading the play rather than strength or reach, so the usual physical advantages largely disappear. A ten-year-old who practises will beat an adult who does not.
Fifty-five inches is a full home size – long enough for the ball to travel and for the game to have a rhythm, rather than the miniature tables that are novelties.
The thing to check before buying is playing height rather than floor space, because a foosball table needs relatively little room around it. Everyone who is going to play has to be able to stand comfortably at the handles with their forearms level – a table that is too tall for children means they cannot generate wrist speed, which is the whole game. Measure against the people who will actually use it.
Drink holders sound like packaging filler and are genuinely the reason a table survives. Foosball is a standing game played with both hands, and a drink put down on the play surface will be knocked over.
Keep it indoors and out of damp – the cabinet is wood or MDF and the rods are steel, and neither enjoys coastal humidity. Wipe the rods occasionally and keep them lightly lubricated so they slide rather than stick.
