Before anything else: measure the room. This is the decision people get wrong, and it is not recoverable. You need about a metre and a half of clear space on every side of the table – the length of a cue plus a bit – or you will be playing shots off the cushion with a short rest all evening. A 7 ft table needs roughly 4.3 by 3.3 m of room. If your space is tight, a smaller table in a room you can walk around plays far better than a bigger one you cannot.

This is the size most homes and small bars can actually accommodate, and the one to choose if the room is anything less than generous.

The automatic ball return sends potted balls through internal channels to a collection point rather than leaving them in the pockets. It sounds like a convenience and it changes the rhythm of a session – nobody walks round the table collecting balls, and racking takes seconds.
