Laser Rangefinder Outdoor 600m

Training & Accessories

A 6.5x handheld laser rangefinder rated to 600 m on a reflective target - which on a flagstick means a practical 150 to 250 m, as with every rangefinder in this class. That still covers every approach shot you will play. Note it measures slope, which is not permitted in competition.

Highlights

What the range figure really means

Reflective target, not flagstick. The difference is large.

600 m means a reflective target

On a flagstick, expect 150 to 250 m. That is true of every rangefinder in this class.

Which still covers every approach

150 to 250 m is more than any approach shot you will play.

It measures slope

Useful for practice, not permitted in competition. Know that before you take it to a medal.

Hold it steady

At distance a small tremor moves the beam metres sideways. Brace, and take two readings.

About this product

Laser Rangefinder Outdoor – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

A handheld laser rangefinder for golf and hunting, quoting a maximum range of 600 m, 6.5x magnification and angle measurement from 0 to 90 degrees.

The 600 m figure needs explaining rather than repeating, because taken at face value it will disappoint you. Laser rangefinders are rated to a large, highly reflective target – a prism, a reflective sign, the flat face of a building – because that returns almost all of the laser pulse. A tree or a hillside returns much less, and the usable range drops to somewhere between a half and two thirds. A flagstick, which is a thin pole, returns very little indeed: on a unit in this class, expect a practical flagstick range of roughly 150 to 250 m.

That is not a criticism of the device – it is how every consumer rangefinder works, and 150 to 250 m covers essentially every approach shot you will play. It is simply not what the headline number means, and we would rather tell you now than have you standing on a fairway wondering why it will not read a pin at 400 m.

Same with accuracy: plus or minus 0.5 m is the manufacturer’s figure, and real-world accuracy depends on how steady you hold it and how bright the light is.

One rules point worth knowing. Under the Rules of Golf, a device measuring distance is allowed when the committee has adopted the local rule permitting them – it is not automatic. Measuring elevation change is not allowed. This unit measures angle, which means a slope function, so it is for practice and casual play unless that function can be switched off.

Questions

Good to know

Will it really read 600 metres?

To a large reflective target, yes - that is what the rating means. To a tree or a hillside, expect roughly half to two thirds of it. To a flagstick, which returns very little light, expect roughly 150 to 250 m. That is how every consumer rangefinder works, and 150 to 250 m covers every approach shot you will play.

Is it legal in competition?

A plain distance-measuring device is allowed only where the committee has adopted the local rule permitting them - it is not automatic. Measuring elevation change is never allowed. This unit measures angle, so it has a slope function: unless that can be switched off, treat it as a practice and casual-play device.

What does slope measurement actually do?

It adjusts the reading for uphill or downhill, giving you a playing distance rather than a straight-line one. Genuinely useful for practice and for learning a course. Not permitted during a competition round, which is why tour-legal models have a physical switch and an external indicator.

How accurate is it in practice?

The plus or minus 0.5 m figure is the manufacturer's. In the field, accuracy depends most on how steady you hold it - at distance, a small hand tremor moves the beam several metres sideways. Brace against something if you can, and take two or three readings.

Can I use it for hunting or other outdoor work?

Yes, and the longer ranges make more sense there, because a large animal or a hillside returns far more light than a flagstick does. Angle measurement is useful for shooting uphill or downhill too.

Does bright sun affect it?

Yes. Strong sunlight raises the background noise the sensor has to pick your return pulse out of, so maximum range drops in the middle of a Tanzanian afternoon compared with early morning. Another reason to treat the headline figure as a ceiling.

Does the heat here affect golf equipment?

Yes, more than most people expect. Grips harden and glaze faster in UV and heat, so they need replacing more often than a manual assumes. Leather gloves stiffen if they dry out crumpled - smooth them flat after a round. And never leave clubs in a parked car boot; sustained heat degrades epoxy shaft bonds.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Golf club sets travel in a long carton, so tell us when you order and we will arrange the right courier.
