Highlights

Everything a braai needs, in one hard case

Not just tongs and a spatula - a thermometer so you stop guessing, an injector for marinade, and a wire brush for cleaning the grate while it is still hot.

Thermometer included

Take the guesswork out of thick cuts and whole chicken. It is the single tool that most improves how a braai turns out.

Marinade injector

Gets flavour into the middle of a thick piece of meat rather than just onto the surface, which is where a long marinade usually stops.

Stainless steel throughout

Handles charcoal heat, salt air and acidic marinade without pitting or staining, and washes clean rather than needing scrubbing.

Hard carry case

Every tool has its place in the case, so the set travels intact and nothing goes missing between the vehicle and the fire.

Product description

About this product

Most braai sets stop at tongs, a fork and a spatula. This one carries on past that point, and the extra pieces are the ones that change how the food turns out. There is a meat thermometer, which is the difference between a chicken that is cooked through and one that everybody quietly leaves on the plate, and a marinade injector, which puts flavour into the centre of a thick cut instead of only on the outside.

The everyday tools are all here and all in stainless steel: a wide spatula for anything that would fall through the bars, long tongs for turning meat over open coals, a fork for lifting whole pieces, and a basting brush for oil and marinade. There is also a wire cleaning brush for the grate, which works best used while the grill is still hot and the residue has not set.

Stainless steel is the material that matters here. Charcoal smoke, salt air off the Indian Ocean and acidic marinade will strip plated tools within a season. These clean up with water, do not pit, and keep their handles firm. The handles are shaped for grip rather than being flat strips, which counts when your hands are oily and the tongs are loaded.

It all lives in a hard carry case with a place for each tool, and that case is why the set is still complete three trips later. It suits anyone who braais seriously – at home in Dar es Salaam, at a beach house in Kigamboni, or over a fire in Mikumi or Ruaha – and it makes an obvious gift for someone who already cooks over coals.

Questions

Good to know

How many tools are in the set?

The kit covers the full range of grilling tasks - cooking tools, a cleaning brush, a thermometer and an injector. Configurations vary slightly between shipments, so message us and we will photograph the exact set currently in the Dar es Salaam showroom.

Is the thermometer instant read or a leave-in probe?

It is supplied as part of the kit for checking meat as you cook. If you specifically need a leave-in probe for long, slow cooking, tell us and we will confirm which type is in stock before you order.

Are the tools long enough for an open jiko?

Yes. The tongs, fork and spatula are built for grilling length rather than kitchen length, so your hands stay clear of open coals.

Will the steel rust in coastal humidity?

Stainless steel handles Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar air well. Dry the tools before closing the case rather than packing them wet, which is what actually causes marks.

Can I use the wire brush on a non-stick or enamelled grate?

No. A wire brush is for bare steel and cast iron grates. On enamel or a coated surface use a cloth or a soft pad instead, or the coating will be scratched off.

Does it work on a gas braai too?

Yes. Nothing in the set is specific to charcoal - the same tools work on a gas grill, a jiko or a fire pit.

Is this a good gift?

It is one of the more common gift purchases we handle, because the hard case presents well and the thermometer and injector are things people rarely buy for themselves.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania - Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and elsewhere. Message us with your location for cost and timing.

Where do these figures come from?

The figures on this page come from the supplier's own documentation rather than an independently tested manufacturer specification, and the table marks them as such. They are a good guide, but if a particular figure matters to you, ask us and we will check the item in the Dar es Salaam showroom before you buy.
