Highlights

Refill instead of replace

Move gas from the cheap big canister into the small one your stove takes.

Cuts fuel cost

Cassette gas is far cheaper per gram than small camping canisters. This bridges the two.

Fewer empties

One refillable canister instead of a bin full of single-use ones.

Metal construction

A gas fitting, built as a gas fitting rather than a plastic novelty.

Camp practical

Top up before a trip instead of hunting for the right canister in a small town.

Product description

About this product

Small camping canisters cost several times more per gram of gas than the flat cassette canisters sold in every supermarket. This valve is the bridge: it connects the two so gas can be transferred from the cheap canister into the one your stove actually takes.

Transfer works by pressure and gravity. The receiving canister is chilled, the source canister is inverted above it, and the gas flows. It is a routine operation done carefully and a dangerous one done carelessly, so read the safety points below before you start.

Key Features

  • Transfers gas between cassette and camping canisters
  • Metal construction
  • Reusable
  • Reduces fuel cost and single-use canister waste

Safety First

  • Outdoors only, away from any flame, cigarette, spark or hot surface.
  • Never overfill. A canister filled beyond its rated weight is dangerous in heat, and Dar is hot.
  • Never apply heat to speed the transfer.
  • Check every joint with soapy water afterwards. Bubbles mean gas. Never check with a flame.
  • If you are not confident doing this, do not do it.

What Is Included

Questions

Good to know

Will it work with my canisters?

Bring both the source canister and the one you want to fill. Fittings vary, and this is not something to guess at on a camping trip.

Is transferring gas safe?

It is a routine operation done carefully, and a dangerous one done carelessly. Work outdoors, away from any flame, cigarette or spark, with nobody smoking nearby. Never overfill. Never heat a canister to speed the transfer. If you are not comfortable doing this, do not.

Why does the canister get cold?

Because gas expanding absorbs heat. That frosting is normal and is also the signal to stop and let things equalise rather than to warm anything up.

Can I refill a canister that was not made to be refilled?

Single-use canisters are not designed for it and the valve is not built for repeated cycles. Many people do it anyway; understand that you are outside what the manufacturer intended and inspect for leaks before every use.

How do I check for a leak?

Soapy water on the joint. Bubbles mean gas. Never use a flame to check, ever.

How should I store gas?

Upright, cool, ventilated, out of sun, never in a closed car in Dar heat.

Can I take these on a plane?

The adapters yes, the gas no. Gas canisters are forbidden in cabin and hold baggage on every airline.
