Shade is the thing you run out of first at a Tanzanian event. This is the large CORE canopy: an accordion-style steel frame that pushes open like a concertina, with no poles to assemble and no separate top to thread on. Two people, about three minutes, and you have covered ground.

The fabric is 150D polyester with a UV 50+ coating, so it is doing real work against the sun rather than just casting a shadow. Two vents in the top let hot air escape instead of collecting under the canopy, which is the difference between shade that feels cool and shade that feels like a greenhouse.

The legs telescope to three heights, so you can set it low for wind or high for headroom over a stall or a table. The buttons on the leg locks are oversized, which sounds like a small thing until you have pinched a finger closing a canopy.

How many people does it shade?

Thirteen feet square covers a long table and seating for roughly ten to twelve people, or a full market stall with room to stand behind it. For a stand-up gathering with no furniture, more.

How many people to put it up?

Two. One person can open an accordion frame, but walking the legs out evenly and setting the height is far easier and safer with a second pair of hands. Budget three minutes for the frame and a few more for staking and guying.

Can it be left out in wind and rain?

No. A canopy is a shade structure, not a storm shelter. Stake every leg and run the guylines whenever it is up, lower the legs to the shortest setting if wind picks up, and take it down rather than leaving it standing overnight in weather. Wind gets under a canopy top and lifts it.

Does the UV coating actually help?

Yes. UV 50+ means the fabric blocks the large majority of ultraviolet, so you are sheltered from burning rather than just out of the glare. It matters at this latitude, where shade alone is not protection.

How heavy is it to move?

Can I add side walls?

Let the top dry completely before packing, or it will mildew in the bag. Sponge it with mild soap and cool water. Keep the leg joints free of sand and grit so the telescoping sections keep sliding.
