The Cape 8.3 is a big square tent that behaves like a room. At 305 x 275 cm with a 188 cm peak, almost everyone stands upright anywhere in it, not just under the apex, and the square plan means the corners are usable rather than wasted. Naturehike rates the interior at 8.3 square metres, which is where the name comes from.
The poles are pre-attached, so pitching is a matter of unfolding it and pushing the frame out: sixty seconds to standing for two people. After that it is pegs and guy ropes, which on a tent this size is the part not to rush.
The fabric is 150D Oxford with a 3000 mm coating, a heavier and higher-rated cloth than the 210D/2000 mm used on the smaller pop-ups, which it needs at this size. Ventilation is five-sided with three large doors, windows and a mesh skylight in the roof, so air crosses the tent rather than sitting in it.
Three doors on a six-person tent is the detail that matters at night. Nobody has to climb over anybody.
