About this product
This is an elbow guard for the leading arm, worn under the shirt sleeve or over it.
The elbow is a specific and nasty target. When a ball lifts more than a batsman expected, the bat comes down inside the line, the front shoulder turns away, and the ball arrives at the point of the leading elbow. There is almost no flesh over that bone, so a cricket ball at pace into it is severe – and it is one of the commonest injuries that makes a batsman retire hurt.
An elbow guard is a pad over that point, held on with straps. It cannot make the blow pleasant, but it turns a potential fracture or a badly damaged joint into a heavy bruise.
Ventilation matters more here than the specification sheet suggests. An elbow guard is worn for an entire innings on the inside of a bent arm, in direct sun, in Dar es Salaam heat. A hot, sweaty guard gets pushed down the forearm and then taken off – which is how batsmen end up without one on at exactly the wrong moment.
EM publish very little about this guard – no material and no left or right designation. Elbow guards are generally not hand-specific, being symmetrical pads worn on whichever arm leads, and it is sized boys, youth and adult. If the fit matters to you, tell us the player-s measurement round the elbow and we will check the stock.
