Product description

About this product

Silicone Collapsible Lightweight Kettle – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The appeal of a collapsible kettle is straightforward. A rigid travel kettle occupies its full volume in a case whether it is in use or not; this one folds down to a fraction of its height and takes about the space of a large mug. For anyone who wants tea or coffee in a hotel room, or hot water for a baby bottle on a long trip, that is a real saving.
Now the thing we want you to read before you order, because we would rather lose a sale than have this go wrong.
The voltage marking we have for this unit is 100-220V. Tanzania is nominally a 230 V country, and the standard supply tolerance runs from about 207 V up to 253 V. A unit whose stated maximum is 220 V would therefore be running above its rating on our mains as a matter of course, and appreciably above it whenever the supply sits at the top of its range. On an appliance whose job is to boil water, we are not comfortable publishing that as fine.
It may simply be a mislabelled or abbreviated marking – 100-240V is the usual universal rating and a shortened 100-220V is a common printing shortcut. We are asking the supplier to confirm the actual plate in writing. Until they do, we are not recommending this for permanent use on Tanzanian mains, and we would rather tell you that here than have you find out.
Ask us before ordering and we will read the rating plate on the stock in the shop and tell you exactly what it says. If it turns out to be 100-240V, this is a good product and we will say so plainly.
Separately, and for any portable kettle: keep the lid closed while it boils and let it stand a moment before opening. The US consumer safety regulator issued warnings on unbranded portable kettles in November 2025 and June 2026 over hot water and steam escaping on opening, with serious burns reported.

Buying a Silicone Collapsible Lightweight Kettle in Tanzania

361 Degrees Adventure keeps the silicone collapsible lightweight kettle at our showroom in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, with delivery countrywide across Tanzania. Come and handle it before you buy, or order online and collect.

Every silicone collapsible lightweight kettle is checked in store before it leaves us, and our staff use the same kit in the field, so you get an honest answer on fit and sizing rather than a sales pitch.

Not sure which silicone collapsible lightweight kettle suits you? Call or message the showroom and we will talk you through the options that are actually in stock in Dar es Salaam.

Spare parts and replacements for the silicone collapsible lightweight kettle are easier to get here than on an overseas order, which matters once the gear is in use.

Pricing on the silicone collapsible lightweight kettle is quoted in Tanzanian shillings, VAT included, so the figure you see is the figure you pay at the counter in Dar es Salaam.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Why does the voltage rating on this one matter so much?

Because the marking we have been given is 100-220V, and Tanzania is not a 220 V country. Our nominal supply is 230 V and the standard tolerance runs up to about 253 V. A unit rated to a 220 V maximum would therefore be operating above its rating on our mains, continuously, and further above it during high-voltage periods. On a water-heating appliance that is not a technicality. We are confirming the actual rating plate with the supplier before we recommend it for use on Tanzanian mains.

What should I look for on the rating plate?

Three markings. 100-240V or 220-240V means it works here on a plug adapter alone. 120V or 110-127V means it will NOT work here and needs a proper step-down transformer - a plug adapter will not save it. And a unit with a manual 110/220 slide switch works only if the switch is set correctly, so check it before every use.

What happens if I plug a 110 V appliance into Tanzanian mains?

Nothing good, and it is a fire risk rather than simply a breakage. A heating element is a fixed resistance, so doubling the voltage roughly quadruples the power it tries to dissipate. The element runs far above its design temperature within seconds, insulation chars and nearby plastics can ignite. The current drawn is still below the breaker rating, so nothing upstream trips - there is no protection to save you.

What is the main safety risk with a portable kettle?

Steam and hot water escaping when the lid is opened. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued warnings in November 2025 and June 2026 about portable travel kettles that pressurised and released hot water or steam unexpectedly - one of those covered 116 reports and 89 injuries including second and third degree burns. Both were unbranded products whose sellers ignored recall requests. Keep the lid closed while boiling, let it stand for a moment before opening, and open it away from your face and hands.

Does it switch off when it boils?

Ask us to confirm before ordering. Two protections matter on any kettle: an automatic cut-out at boiling, and a boil-dry cut-out that stops the element if it is switched on empty. Boil-dry protection is the one that prevents a fire, and it is the one cheap kettles most often omit. We are asking the supplier for written confirmation of both.

Will hard water damage it?

Scale builds up on the element from the mineral content in the water, and a scaled element runs hotter and fails sooner. Use filtered water where you can, empty it after use rather than leaving water standing, and descale periodically with a weak vinegar or citric acid solution if the manufacturer has no procedure of its own.

Can I use it in a hotel room?

That is what it is for, but check first - some hotels prohibit guest kettles, and a 1000 W-plus appliance can trip an older circuit if it is sharing with an air conditioner. Put it on a hard flat surface away from the edge, never on carpet or on bedding, and never leave it boiling unattended.
