Highlights

Folds, and works standing up

The handle folds so it packs, and it steams vertically as well as ironing flat - so a shirt on a hanger behind a hotel door gets dealt with without hunting for an ironing board that does not exist.

1300 W

Enough power to make steam quickly rather than warming up for ten minutes.

Vertical and flat

Steam a hanging shirt, or iron properly on a surface.

Folding handle

Packs into a case instead of dictating how you pack around it.

Product description

About this product

Travel Vertical Steam Iron – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

A travel iron earns its place when you arrive somewhere the night before something that matters and everything you own has been folded in a case for two days. Hotel irons are unreliable and guesthouses frequently have none.
This one does both jobs. Flat on any suitable surface it irons conventionally. Held vertically against a shirt on a hanger it steams, which is faster, gentler on the fabric and needs no board at all. For most travel purposes the vertical mode is the one you will use.
At 1300 W it produces steam quickly. A lower-powered travel iron spends a long time heating and then cannot maintain temperature once you start working, which is why underpowered ones feel useless.
The handle folds so it packs flat.
Now the important part, and please read it before ordering. We have not yet had the voltage rating on this unit confirmed in writing by the supplier, and on a 1300 W mains heating appliance that is not a detail we are willing to guess. Tanzania runs at a nominal 230 V, 50 Hz. If the plate reads 100-240V or 220-240V it works here on a plug adapter alone; if it reads 120V it does not, and no travel converter will make a 1300 W heater safe. Ask us before you order and we will read the plate on the actual stock and tell you what it says.

Buying a Travel Vertical Steam Iron in Tanzania

361 Degrees Adventure keeps the travel vertical steam iron at our showroom in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, with delivery countrywide across Tanzania. Come and handle it before you buy, or order online and collect.

Every travel vertical steam iron is checked in store before it leaves us, and our staff use the same kit in the field, so you get an honest answer on fit and sizing rather than a sales pitch.

Not sure which travel vertical steam iron suits you? Call or message the showroom and we will talk you through the options that are actually in stock in Dar es Salaam.

Spare parts and replacements for the travel vertical steam iron are easier to get here than on an overseas order, which matters once the gear is in use.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Will it run on Tanzanian mains?

Tanzania is nominally 230 V, 50 Hz, and the standard tolerance runs from about 207 V up to 253 V. Before we publish a voltage figure for this unit we want the rating plate confirmed in writing by the supplier - we are not going to guess it on a mains heating appliance. Ask us before you order and we will read the plate on the stock and tell you exactly what it says.

What should I look for on the rating plate?

Three markings. 100-240V or 220-240V means it works here on a plug adapter alone. 120V or 110-127V means it will NOT work here and needs a proper step-down transformer - a plug adapter will not save it. And a unit with a manual 110/220 slide switch works only if the switch is set correctly, so check it before every use.

What happens if I plug a 110 V appliance into Tanzanian mains?

Nothing good, and it is a fire risk rather than simply a breakage. A heating element is a fixed resistance, so doubling the voltage roughly quadruples the power it tries to dissipate. The element runs far above its design temperature within seconds, insulation chars and nearby plastics can ignite. The current drawn is still below the breaker rating, so nothing upstream trips - there is no protection to save you.

Can I use a travel voltage converter?

Not for a heating appliance of this kind, and this is worth understanding. Travel transformers are typically rated around 50 W. Solid-state converters that reach 1500 W or more carry an explicit 30-minute duty limit and their own documentation usually warns against using them with thermostatically controlled appliances such as irons. A continuous-duty transformer big enough for a 1300 W heater weighs several kilograms. If the appliance is not rated for 230 V, the answer is not to buy a converter - it is not to buy the appliance.

Is a plug adapter the same as a converter?

No, and the confusion causes real damage. A plug adapter changes the shape of the pins and nothing else - the British Standard for travel adaptors actually requires the words This adaptor does not convert voltage to be printed on the product. If the appliance is rated for 230 V you need only an adapter. If it is not, an adapter will destroy it.

Does it need an earthed socket?

Any metal-bodied mains appliance should be run from a properly earthed socket. The earth is what carries fault current away and trips the breaker if a live conductor touches the casing. Never run one of these through a travel adaptor that does not carry earth through - if the earth path is missing, a fault leaves the metal body live at 230 V with nothing tripping to stop it.

What safety approvals does it carry?

We are asking the supplier for IEC 60335 test documentation - that is the international safety standard series for household appliances, with specific parts for irons, for appliances that heat liquids and for fabric steamers. A CE mark on its own is not evidence of testing, because for this class of product CE is a manufacturer self-declaration rather than an independent assessment. We will publish whatever documentation we receive.
