Product description

About this product

The useful thing about this one is that it changes shape for the job. Held in the hand in a queue, stood on a desk while you work, or hung round the neck when you need both hands – it is the same fan in three positions rather than three fans.
At 107 g and 2 cm thick it is genuinely pocketable. That matters more than airflow figures, because a fan that is too bulky to carry is a fan you leave at home on the day you needed it.
It runs from 5 V USB, which means a laptop port, a power bank or any phone charger. There is nothing proprietary to lose and nothing unusual to replace.
Be realistic about what a personal fan does in this climate. It does not cool the air – it moves air across your skin so sweat evaporates faster. In Dar es Salaam humidity that effect is weaker than it would be in dry heat, but sitting still at a desk, in traffic or in a queue it makes a real difference. It will not cool a room.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Does a small fan actually help in this heat?

It does not lower the air temperature - it moves air across your skin, which speeds up evaporation and makes you feel cooler. In Dar es Salaam humidity that effect is weaker than in dry heat, because sweat evaporates more slowly to begin with. It is genuinely useful sitting still at a desk, in a queue or on a bus. It will not cool a room.

Is it any use during a power cut?

That is one of the better arguments for a rechargeable fan. When the power goes, a charged fan keeps working - so it is worth charging it as a matter of habit rather than only when you plan to use it. Keep it topped up and it is there when you need it.

How long does a charge last?

It depends almost entirely on the speed you run it at, and the difference is large - the top speed can drain a battery several times faster than the lowest. Manufacturers quote the figure at the lowest setting. Where we have a published runtime we give it; where we do not, we say so rather than repeat a number we cannot source.

Will dust affect it?

Yes, and it is the main thing that shortens the life of a small fan here. Dust builds on the blades, unbalances them and makes the motor work harder and louder. Wipe the blades with a dry cloth every few weeks - do not run water into the housing.

Can I take it on a plane?

Anything with a built-in lithium battery travels in your cabin bag, never in checked luggage - that is a firm rule across every airline flying out of Julius Nyerere. A small personal fan is well within the capacity limits and is not a problem to carry.

Does humidity harm it?

Coastal air corrodes exposed contacts and charging ports over time. Keep the port covered or facing down when it is not in use, and do not store the fan in a sealed damp bag for months. If it is going away for a season, charge it to about half first - a lithium cell left completely flat for months may not recover.

Is it safe around children?

Check the guard before you hand any fan to a small child - the spacing of the grille is what stops fingers reaching the blades. Bladeless and soft-blade designs are safer in that respect. Supervise young children with any fan that has a conventional rigid blade.
