Highlights

Heavy enough to throw where you aim it

A light ring is useless. Thrown at a person twenty metres away it catches the wind and lands nowhere near them. Weight is what lets a buoy be thrown accurately across a breeze - which is the whole job it has to do.

Sealed polyethylene shell

No seams to split, no fabric to rot, nothing to absorb water. It works after years on a wall in the sun.

Polyurethane foam core

Solid foam, so a puncture or a scrape does not affect its buoyancy at all.

High-visibility orange

Seen from a boat, from the shore and from the air, in chop and in low light.

2.8 kg

The weight class that can actually be thrown into a breeze and reach the person you aimed at.

Product description

About this product

Life Buoy Ring – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

A lifebuoy is the simplest piece of rescue equipment there is, and the one most often missing when it is needed. It is a ring of polyurethane foam sealed inside a moulded polyethylene shell. There is nothing to inflate, nothing to service and nothing to fail.

Its value is in the throw. A person in trouble in the water does not need someone to swim to them – untrained rescuers drown attempting exactly that, every year, all over the world. They need something that floats thrown to them from safety. At 2.8 kg this ring carries far enough to reach someone properly, and holds its line across a breeze that would take a light float away.

Attach a line. A buoy with a floating line tied to it can be thrown and then pulled in with the person holding it, which turns a flotation device into a rescue. Without a line you are relying on them being able to hold on until a boat arrives. Every buoy on a jetty or a pool wall should have a line, and the line should be long enough to matter and coiled so it runs free.

Mount it where it can be reached and seen – on a bracket on the wall, not in a store cupboard. Keep it out of long direct sun if you can, because UV eventually chalks and embrittles polyethylene, and check the shell for cracks each season. A cracked shell lets water into the foam, and a waterlogged buoy floats a great deal less well than it looks like it should.

Buying a Life Buoy Ring in Dar es Salaam

361 Degrees Adventure keeps the life buoy ring at our showroom in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, with delivery countrywide across Tanzania. Come and handle it before you buy, or order online and collect.

Every life buoy ring is checked in store before it leaves us, and our staff use the same kit in the field, so you get an honest answer on fit and sizing rather than a sales pitch.

Not sure which life buoy ring suits you? Call or message the showroom and we will talk you through the options that are actually in stock in Tanzania.

Spare parts and replacements for the life buoy ring are easier to get here than on an overseas order, which matters once the gear is in use.

Questions

Good to know

Should I throw the buoy or swim out?

Throw. Reach or throw, never go - untrained rescuers drown trying to swim to someone in trouble, every year. Throw the buoy beyond and past the person so the line falls across them, then pull them in.

Does it come with a line?

No. Fit a floating rescue line of your own, long enough for where it is mounted and coiled so it runs out freely when the buoy is thrown. A buoy without a line can be thrown but not recovered.

Is it really SOLAS approved?

Our supplier states that it is, but no certification document has been provided to us, so we mark it as a supplier claim rather than a verified certification. If you need a certified buoy for a commercial or passenger vessel, tell us and we will source one with paperwork.

Why does the weight say supplier figure?

The 2.8 kg figure comes from the supplier-s specification and we have not weighed the stock against a certificate. It sits within the normal range for a SOLAS-class lifebuoy. If the exact weight matters for an inspection, ask us and we will weigh one.

Where should I mount it?

Somewhere visible and immediately reachable from the water-s edge - a bracket on a jetty post, a pool wall or a boat rail. A lifebuoy in a locker is a lifebuoy that will not be used.

Does the sun damage it?

Over years, yes. UV chalks and embrittles polyethylene, which is worth knowing in this climate. Shade it where you can, and check each season for cracks in the shell - a crack lets water into the foam and a waterlogged buoy floats badly.

How does it compare with a rescue tube?

A buoy is thrown from safety by anyone. A rescue tube is carried into the water by a trained lifeguard who swims to the casualty. They are different tools for different situations, and most pools and jetties should have both.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
