Highlights

Braid cuts, and it cuts deep

Modern braid is thin, hard and under real load on a cast. It will open your index finger cleanly, and the cut takes days to heal in salt water.

Stops line cuts

The specific problem this solves - braid slicing the casting finger on a hard cast.

Anti-slip surface

You can still hold and release the line precisely, which a plaster or tape does not allow.

Either hand

Wears on the left or right index finger, so it suits any angler.

One size, four colours

Approximately 18.5 x 8 cm, in army green, black, blue or red.

Product description

About this product

Anyone who casts braid hard eventually cuts their index finger, and the cut is worse than people expect. Braid is very thin, very hard and entirely without stretch, and on a heavy cast it is travelling fast under real load. It slices rather than burns, the cut is clean and deep, and in salt water it takes days to close.

A casting finger protector solves it for the price of almost nothing. It is a soft, flexible sleeve that goes over the index finger, with an anti-slip surface so you can still hold and release the line precisely – which is why tape or a plaster does not work. A taped finger cannot feel the line, and a plaster comes off on the second cast.

It is one size, roughly 18.5 by 8 cm, soft enough to be worn for hours, and it goes on either the left or right hand depending on which finger you cast with. Four colours are made: army green, black, blue and red.

If you fish heavy braid – shore jigging, popping, or throwing metal off the rocks all morning – this is one of the highest-value items in the shop for what it costs.

Questions

Good to know

Do I really need one?

If you cast braid hard, yes. Braid is thin, hard and stretch-free, and on a heavy cast it slices the index finger cleanly. In salt water that cut takes days to close and gets worse every session.

Why not just use tape or a plaster?

Because you cannot feel the line through tape, and a plaster comes off on the second cast. A proper protector has an anti-slip surface designed so you can still hold and release the line precisely.

Which hand does it go on?

Whichever hand holds the rod - the index finger that traps the line before you release it. It works on either hand, so it suits left- and right-handed casters equally.

Will it affect my casting?

It should not. The anti-slip surface is there so the line releases cleanly rather than sticking. It takes a few casts to get used to the feel and then you stop noticing it.

Does one size really fit?

For the great majority of adult hands, yes - the material is soft and flexible. Come in and try one if you have unusually large or small hands.

Is it only for braid?

Mostly. Monofilament stretches and is softer, so it burns rather than cuts and is less likely to draw blood. Heavy braid is where the real damage happens.

How do I look after it?

Rinse in fresh water after sea use and dry it. Salt stiffens the material over time and the anti-slip surface loses some of its grip.

Do you deliver outside Dar es Salaam?

Yes, we ship nationwide. This is a very small parcel - tell us your location and we will quote.
