About this product
There is a category of fishing job that bare hands lose. Lifting a grouper by the gill plate, unhooking a barracuda, running wire leader through your fingers, holding braid under load – all of them draw blood eventually, and salt water does the rest. Full-finger gloves with a cut-resistant weave are what stop it.
These cover the whole hand, are waterproof while remaining breathable, and have a non-slip palm so that a wet rod, a wet fish and a wet gaff handle stay where you put them. The fabric carries UPF 50+ protection across the whole hand, including the backs, which take direct sun all day and are almost never sunscreened properly.
Being cut resistant is not the same as being cut proof, and it is worth being clear about that. They will take a graze from a gill plate or a dorsal spine that would open a bare hand. They will not stop a hook driven into the palm, and nothing short of chainmail stops a big barracuda if you put your fingers where its teeth are.
For anything with real teeth, use a fish grip – we stock those too – and keep the gloves for handling, hauling and protection from sun and abrasion.
