Highlights

The cheapest insurance on the boat

Pliers go over the side. Not if, when. A lanyard that costs a fraction of the tool is the only thing between a fumble and a replacement purchase.

Coiled cord

Extends when you need reach and pulls back out of the way when you do not - no dangling loop to snag.

Aluminium carabiner

Clips to a belt loop, a vest D-ring or a bag strap and stays there.

Aluminium alloy and TPU

Corrosion-resistant hardware and a cord that stays flexible in heat and salt.

21 cm unextended

Compact against the body, with plenty of stretch when the tool is in use.

Product description

About this product

Every angler who has fished from a boat has watched a tool go over the side. It happens in the moment something else is going on – a fish thrashing, a wave, a hand already full – and the tool is gone. A coiled lanyard costs a fraction of the pliers it protects and ends the problem entirely.

Coiled is the right design for it. A straight cord dangles, catches on things and swings; a coil sits compact against your body at 21 cm and extends as far as you need when you pull the tool out to use it.

The hardware is aluminium alloy with a TPU cord. Aluminium resists corrosion where a steel clip would rust solid, and TPU stays flexible in heat and salt where cheaper plastics go brittle and crack.

Clip the carabiner to a belt loop, a vest D-ring or a bag strap, and attach the other end to whatever you would hate to lose – pliers, a lip grip, a line cutter, a hook file.

It comes in black, blue or red. A bright one is easier to see, which is a small but real advantage when you are checking that everything is still attached before you move.

Questions

Good to know

What should I attach to it?

Anything you would hate to lose over the side: pliers, a lip grip, line cutters, a hook file. Heavier tools need to be clipped to something solid - a belt loop or a vest D-ring, not a shirt pocket.

Why coiled rather than straight?

A straight cord dangles, swings and catches on things. A coil sits compact against your body and extends only when you pull the tool out to use it.

How far does it extend?

It is 21 cm at rest and stretches considerably further in use - enough to work a hook out with the tool still attached. Exact extended length is not published; ask us and we will measure one.

Will the carabiner corrode?

Aluminium resists corrosion far better than steel, which is why it is used. Rinse it in fresh water after sea trips and work the gate a few times so salt does not build up in the spring.

Can I use it for my phone or keys?

For keys, yes. For a phone, use a proper phone tether or a dry pouch with a lanyard point - a tool lanyard clip is not designed to hold a phone securely.

Does it float?

No. A lanyard keeps the tool attached to you, which is the whole point - nothing in this system is meant to float.

Which colour should I choose?

A bright one if you fish from a boat. It is easier to see at a glance that everything is still clipped on before you move around.

How do I look after it?

Rinse in fresh water after sea use, work the carabiner gate while rinsing, and dry it. Check the cord for cracking - TPU lasts well but nothing lasts forever in this sun.
