Highlights

Twenty kilos of drag

On a metal-bodied reel that figure is meaningful, because an aluminium frame does not twist under it - which is exactly what lets the gears keep meshing at full pressure.

20 kg maximum drag

A big number, and the aluminium frame is what makes it usable rather than theoretical (supplier figure).

Aluminium body and rotor

A metal frame that resists the twisting force heavy drag puts through a reel.

8+1 stainless bearings

Anti-corrosion stainless throughout, with a sealed gearbox and CRC coating.

Aluminium screw-in handle

A threaded handle rather than a push-fit - the right fitting when you are winding hard.

Product description

About this product

This is the heavy end of Noeby Infinite range as supplied to us: 20 kg of maximum drag on an aluminium body and rotor, with 8+1 anti-corrosion stainless bearings, a forged aluminium spool and an aluminium screw-in handle, all under Noeby CRC corrosion-resistant coating over a sealed gearbox.

The metal frame is the part that makes the drag figure mean something. Twenty kilos of pressure tries hard to twist a reel body, and a graphite frame under that load lets the drive gear and pinion fall out of alignment – which is when a reel starts to feel rough and never quite recovers. Aluminium resists it.

Geared at 5.2:1, this is a reel for heavy shore work and inshore boat fishing: kingfish, trevally, big queenfish and barracuda off the rocks and beaches, bottom fishing over reef, and serious Nile perch fishing on the big lakes.

One point of honesty. Noeby own catalogues list the Infinite SW in sizes 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, 8000 and 10000, with no 6000 among them. The reel we are supplied is badged 6000R and comes with the figures above. We have published them marked as supplier figures rather than presenting them as a manufacturer specification we can point you at, and we would rather tell you than not. Ask us before ordering and we will confirm exactly what is in the shop.

Questions

Good to know

Why do you flag the model number?

Because Noeby own catalogues list the Infinite SW in 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, 8000 and 10000 sizes, and no 6000 appears among them. The reel supplied to us is badged 6000R. It may be a regional or later addition. We would rather tell you than publish a specification we cannot trace, so ask us and we will confirm what is physically in stock.

Is 20 kg of drag realistic on a reel this size?

It is the figure our supplier gives, marked as such. What makes a high drag rating usable rather than theoretical is the frame, and this reel has an aluminium body and rotor, which is the right construction for it. Treat 20 kg as the ceiling, not an everyday setting - most fishing is done at a third of a reel maximum drag.

What can I catch with it around Dar es Salaam?

Kingfish, trevally, big queenfish and barracuda off the rocks and beaches, and bottom fishing over reef from a boat. Inland it is a serious Nile perch reel for Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika.

What rod should I pair it with?

A 9 ft to 10 ft shore or shore-jigging rod, or a heavier boat rod. Our Noeby Beast Travel Shore Jigging NBTS9605MH or CRONY Weapons IV are both sensible partners.

Is it a genuine saltwater reel?

It is built for it - aluminium construction, CRC anti-corrosion coating, stainless bearings and a sealed gearbox. Noeby publish no IP rating, so treat it as well-protected rather than sealed, and rinse it after every sea session.

Is the handle reversible?

Yes - it is a screw-in aluminium handle that fits either side.

Why are the retrieve rate and line capacity missing?

Noeby do not publish them for the Infinite range. We have listed only what we can source, and we will measure the reel for you in the shop if a particular figure matters.

How do I look after it in salt water?

Rinse under a gentle spray of fresh water after every sea session, never a hard jet, then stand it upright to drain and dry. Back the drag off before storage, and oil the handle knob and bail pivot every few trips.
