Highlights

Support you can remove one block at a time

Most floats are all or nothing. A belt float is built from separate EVA blocks on a strap, so as a swimmer improves you pull one block off, then another. The support drops in steps small enough that they never notice the moment it goes.

EVA foam blocks

Closed-cell EVA does not absorb water, so the belt floats the same at the end of a session as at the start.

Adjustable waist strap

Fits a child or an adult and cinches tight enough not to rotate round the body.

Worn on the back

Lifts the hips, which is exactly where a beginner sinks. The arms and legs stay completely free.

Aqua fitness and rehab

The same belt is what deep-water running and aqua aerobics classes use to stay vertical without touching the floor.

Product description

About this product

A swim belt is the training aid instructors reach for once a beginner is past arm bands. The foam sits on the lower back, so it lifts the hips rather than the shoulders. That matters: a beginner sinks at the hips, drops the legs, and then fights the water with their arms. Lift the hips and the body goes flat, and a flat body is what makes swimming feel easy for the first time.

Because the float is behind you, nothing is in the way. Arms sweep fully, the head turns to breathe, the legs kick from the hip. Compared with a vest or arm bands, a belt teaches the actual stroke rather than a version of it adapted around the float.

The blocks come off individually. Start a nervous adult on the full set, take one off when they can swim a length calmly, another when they can breathe to the side, and so on. By the time the last block goes they are swimming and have not had a single frightening step. That graduated removal is the reason coaches prefer belts to any other buoyancy aid for teaching adults.

It is also the standard piece of kit for aqua fitness. Worn in deep water it holds you vertical for deep-water running, and it is used in rehabilitation work where weight has to come off a joint entirely. EVA foam is light, does not take on water and rinses clean.

Questions

Good to know

Is a swim belt safer than arm bands?

It is a better teaching tool, not a safety device. Neither is a lifejacket. A belt leaves the arms free and lifts the hips, which teaches a proper flat body position; arm bands hold the shoulders up and tend to tip a swimmer forward.

How many blocks should I start with?

All of them for a complete beginner, then remove one as soon as they can swim a length without tensing. There is no fixed schedule - the right moment is when they stop thinking about the float.

Can an adult use it?

Yes. The strap adjusts and the belt is widely used for adult learn-to-swim, deep-water running and aqua aerobics. A heavier adult may want the full set of blocks to start.

Why is the float on the back and not the front?

Because beginners sink at the hips, not the chest. Support on the back lifts the hips and flattens the body. A front float pushes the chest up and drops the legs further, which is the opposite of what you want.

Will it spin round my waist?

Not if it is tight. Pull the strap so the belt does not move when you twist - a loose belt rotates to the side and stops lifting the hips. It should feel snug but not restrict breathing.

How do I look after EVA foam?

Rinse in fresh water after every session and dry in the shade. Chlorine and UV both break down closed-cell foam over time, and a belt left on a sunny poolside will go chalky and start crumbling at the edges.

Can I use it in the sea?

For calm, shallow, supervised training, yes. It is not a buoyancy aid for open water - it will not hold an unconscious person face-up and it can be pulled off in surf. Keep it for a pool or a flat sheltered bay.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
