Highlights

A daypack that happens to be waterproof

Twenty-five litres is a normal daypack volume. This one seals at the top, so the rain and the spray simply stop mattering.

25 litres

Full daypack capacity - a day's kit for two, or everything one person needs on a boat with room for a jacket and lunch.

Roll-top seal

Three folds and a buckle. No zip and no seam, which is why roll-tops have outlasted every clever alternative.

High-visibility yellow

Easy to see in a boat, on a beach or in water, which on the coast is a practical advantage rather than a style choice.

PVC inside and out

Genuinely waterproof and wipeable, so salt and sand rinse off rather than being absorbed.

Product description

About this product

Twenty-five litres is ordinary daypack capacity, which makes this the version that can replace a normal bag rather than sitting alongside one. It takes a day’s kit for two people, or one person’s kit with a jacket, lunch and a camera – and the top seals, so rain, spray and a wet boat floor stop being something you think about.

A roll-top waterproof bag works on a completely different principle from a water-resistant backpack. There is no zip to leak and no seam under the flap. You fill it, fold the top over on itself at least three times, and clip the buckle – and the folded material seals the opening against water. It is the same method dry bags have used for decades, because it works.

The material is 100 percent polyester with PVC layers on both the inside and the outside. That double coating is what makes it genuinely waterproof rather than merely resistant, and it makes the bag wipeable – sand, salt and mud come off with a rinse rather than soaking in.

Two details make it more useful than a plain dry bag. There is a mesh pocket on the side for a water bottle or anything you need without opening the seal, and it can be carried in up to four different ways – as a backpack, over one shoulder, by the handle or rolled down small – so it adapts to a beach walk, a boat and a dala dala equally.

It suits Zanzibar and coastal boat trips, kayaking, fishing, beach days, river crossings on a trek, and the rainy season generally. One honest note: like all roll-tops it is made to keep water out in splashing, spray and rain rather than to be submerged. Do not treat it as a diving bag.

Questions

Good to know

Can this replace my normal daypack?

For wet-season use, boat trips and the coast, yes - 25 litres is standard daypack capacity. It has no laptop sleeve or organiser pockets, so for daily office use a conventional pack is more comfortable to live out of.

How do I close it properly?

Fill it, squeeze the air out, then fold the top over on itself at least three times before clipping the buckle. Three folds is the minimum for a seal - two will let water in eventually.

Is it fully submersible?

No. Like all roll-top bags it is made for splashes, spray and rain rather than being held underwater. It will handle a boat, a beach and a downpour; it is not a diving bag.

Can I carry it as a backpack?

Yes, it converts between up to four carrying styles - backpack, single shoulder, hand carry or rolled down small. That flexibility is the main reason to buy this over a plain dry bag.

What goes in the mesh side pocket?

A water bottle, or anything you want reachable without breaking the seal on the main compartment. It is not waterproof, so keep it for things that can get wet.

How do I clean it?

Rinse with fresh water and wipe it out, particularly after salt water. The PVC coating means it wipes rather than soaks. Dry it fully before rolling it away.

Will it keep a phone dry on a boat?

In spray and rain, yes, closed properly. For absolute certainty on a small boat, put the phone in a separate small dry pouch inside - two layers, no argument.

Will the coating crack in the sun?

Leaving PVC rolled up in full sun for long periods is what eventually cracks it. Store it loosely in the shade rather than tightly rolled on a dashboard.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania, including Zanzibar. Message us with your town for cost and timing.
