Five thousand is the size at which a saltwater spinning reel becomes properly useful on this coast. It carries enough line to let a kingfish or a trevally run, enough drag to turn one, and it is still light enough to cast a lure a few hundred times in a morning without your wrist giving up. Below that you are limited; above it you are carrying a beach reel.

The Infinite build is the reason to consider it against the obvious alternatives. The body and rotor are aluminium rather than graphite, which matters because drag pressure tries to twist a reel frame, and a flexing frame lets the drive gear and pinion fall out of line. Around that sit 8+1 anti-corrosion stainless bearings, a forged aluminium spool, an aluminium screw-in handle, and Noeby CRC corrosion-resistant coating over a sealed gearbox.

3000 or 5000 - which should I buy?

The 5000 for the sea: it carries more line and steps the drag up from 18 lb to 25 lb, which is the difference between hoping a kingfish stops and making it stop. The 3000 is the lighter, more comfortable reel for jetty and creek work and for freshwater.

Is it a genuine saltwater reel?

It is built for it - aluminium construction, CRC anti-corrosion coating, stainless bearings and a sealed gearbox. Noeby publish no IP water-resistance rating, so treat it as well-protected rather than sealed, and rinse it after every sea session.

What can I catch with it around Dar es Salaam?

Kingfish, queenfish, barracuda, trevally and snapper off the rocks at Msasani and Kigamboni, from the beaches, and from a small boat inshore. Inland it is a strong Nile perch and catfish reel.

What rod should I pair it with?
