About this product
Snooker Billiard Cue – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.
A three-quarter jointed snooker cue.
The joint position is what this cue is about, and it is worth understanding because it is the reason serious snooker players choose three-quarter cues over two-piece ones.
Any joint interrupts the transfer of energy along a cue, and you feel it as a slight deadness at impact. A one-piece cue has no joint and plays best – and cannot be carried anywhere. A two-piece cue splits at the centre, which puts the joint right where the bridge hand and the striking hand are working, and that is where it is most noticeable. A three-quarter jointed cue moves the split up toward the tip end, well away from both hands, so the section you actually hold and stroke through is continuous. The result plays considerably closer to a one-piece cue while still packing down into a case.
That is the whole argument, and it is a real one rather than marketing.
Snooker sizing matters too. Snooker cues carry smaller tips – typically 9 to 10 mm – because snooker balls are smaller than pool balls at 52.5 mm and the game demands precise side spin. A pool cue with a 13 mm tip on a snooker table feels blunt.
Care: rack it vertically or lay it flat in a case, never against a wall, and keep it out of damp and direct sun. In this climate a cue stored badly will have moved within a year, and a warped cue cannot be put right. Roll it on a flat table occasionally and watch the tip.
