Pool Snooker Billiard Cue Rest Handle

Racks & Rests

A cue rest handle - the shaft a rest head screws onto. Rest heads are sold separately because most tables want more than one, and they all fit the same handle: cross rest for reach, spider for height, low head for cushion-tight shots.

Highlights

One handle, several heads

Which is why heads and handles are sold separately.

Takes any standard head

Cross rest, spider or low head all screw onto the same handle.

Why they are sold separately

Most tables want two or three heads and only ever need one handle.

Hold it still

With your free hand, flat on the cloth. A rest that moves is a shot that misses.

Store it with the cues

In a rack rather than leaning. A handle warps the same way a cue does.

Product description

About this product

Pool Snooker Billiard Cue – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

A cue rest handle – the shaft that a rest head screws onto.

Handles and heads are sold separately for a practical reason: a table needs several heads and only ever needs one or two handles. The three heads solve three different problems. A cross rest is for a shot you cannot reach. A spider or swan rest is for a shot you cannot get over, where another ball sits between the cue ball and your bridge hand. A low head is for a shot you cannot get flat to, where the cue ball is tight against a cushion and a normal rest forces the cue into a downward angle.

All of them screw onto the same handle, which is the one part that does not change.

Using a rest well is mostly about the free hand. Lay the handle flat on the cloth, hold it firmly still, and stroke with your cue hand palm-up rather than palm-down. Most rest shots that go wrong are a rest that shifted at the moment of striking rather than a stroke that failed – and because the player is watching the cue ball, they never see it happen.

Store it with the cues, in a rack rather than leaning against a wall. A rest handle is a long thin piece of wood or metal and a wooden one warps the same way a cue does, particularly in this humidity.

Questions

Good to know

When do I need a rest?

The first time you face a shot you cannot reach while keeping a hand on the table, which on a full-size table happens within the first frame. Stretching across the table is how players lose their stroke, foul the cue ball and mark the cloth with a sleeve.

What is the difference between the rest heads?

A standard cross rest supports the cue at a normal height for most shots. A swan rest, sometimes called a spider, holds the cue much higher so you can play over an intervening ball. A low head does the opposite - it keeps the cue almost flat for shots tight against a cushion. Different problems, different tools.

How do I use a rest properly?

Lay the rest flat on the cloth with the head just behind and to one side of the cue ball, rest the cue in the notch, and stroke with the cue held palm-up rather than palm-down. Keep the rest still with your other hand - most bad rest shots are a rest that moved.

Will it mark the cloth?

It should not, if it is laid flat and the tips are intact. What does mark cloth is a rest with a damaged or missing plastic foot, dragged rather than lifted. Check the feet occasionally and replace a rest whose plastic has broken away.

Do I need more than one?

On a full-size table, most clubs keep a cross rest and a spider as a minimum, because the shot you cannot reach and the shot you cannot get over are different problems. On a small home table, one rest will cover most of it.

Which handle length?

A rest head screws onto a handle, and most handles are cue length. On a full-size snooker table a long rest is useful for the far end of the table - if that is your situation, ask us and we will confirm what we have.

What length cue should I buy?

The standard is 57 to 58 inches, which suits most adults. If you are much taller than average, a 58 inch cue or an extension is worth having; for a child, a shorter cue is genuinely easier to control. The other question is joint: a one-piece cue plays best but does not travel, which is why most players use a two-piece or three-quarter jointed cue.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. A table is a heavy two-person item, so tell us when you order and we will arrange the right transport and talk through access.
