Highlights

Holds a temperature, not just boils

A thermostat is the difference between a kettle and a kettle you can actually use for green tea, coffee or a baby bottle. It brings water to a set temperature and keeps it there instead of boiling and then cooling on the side.

Thermostatic control

Set a temperature and it holds it, rather than boil-and-forget.

Travel sized

Built to pack, for hotel rooms and guesthouses without a kettle.

Right for tea and coffee

Green tea at boiling point is ruined; at 80 C it is not.

Product description

About this product

Thermostatic Portable Electric Kettle – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

Thermostatic control is the feature worth paying for, and it is genuinely useful rather than a specification for its own sake. Green tea brewed with boiling water is bitter; it wants around 80 degrees. Coffee wants just off the boil. A baby bottle wants body temperature. A plain kettle gives you one temperature and then a cooling cup you have to guess at.
Being able to hold a temperature also means water stays ready rather than needing reboiling, which matters in a hotel room where you are working through the morning.
It is sized for travel, so it suits one or two people rather than a household. That is the right trade for a kettle whose purpose is hotel rooms and guesthouses that have none.
On any portable kettle: keep the lid closed while it boils and let it settle for a moment before opening. The US consumer safety regulator issued warnings on unbranded portable kettles in November 2025 and June 2026 over pressurised steam and hot water escaping on opening, with serious burns reported in both cases. Open it away from your face and hands.
Please read the voltage note before ordering. We have not yet had this unit’s rating plate confirmed in writing by the supplier, and we will not guess it on a mains water heater. Tanzania is nominally 230 V, 50 Hz. Ask us and we will read the plate on the stock.

Questions

Good to know

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship countrywide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Zanzibar and the rest of Tanzania.

Will it run on Tanzanian mains?

Tanzania is nominally 230 V, 50 Hz, and the standard tolerance runs from about 207 V up to 253 V. Before we publish a voltage figure for this unit we want the rating plate confirmed in writing by the supplier - we are not going to guess it on a mains heating appliance. Ask us before you order and we will read the plate on the stock and tell you exactly what it says.

What is the main safety risk with a portable kettle?

Steam and hot water escaping when the lid is opened. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued warnings in November 2025 and June 2026 about portable travel kettles that pressurised and released hot water or steam unexpectedly - one of those covered 116 reports and 89 injuries including second and third degree burns. Both were unbranded products whose sellers ignored recall requests. Keep the lid closed while boiling, let it stand for a moment before opening, and open it away from your face and hands.

Does it switch off when it boils?

Ask us to confirm before ordering. Two protections matter on any kettle: an automatic cut-out at boiling, and a boil-dry cut-out that stops the element if it is switched on empty. Boil-dry protection is the one that prevents a fire, and it is the one cheap kettles most often omit. We are asking the supplier for written confirmation of both.

What should I look for on the rating plate?

Three markings. 100-240V or 220-240V means it works here on a plug adapter alone. 120V or 110-127V means it will NOT work here and needs a proper step-down transformer - a plug adapter will not save it. And a unit with a manual 110/220 slide switch works only if the switch is set correctly, so check it before every use.

Will hard water damage it?

Scale builds up on the element from the mineral content in the water, and a scaled element runs hotter and fails sooner. Use filtered water where you can, empty it after use rather than leaving water standing, and descale periodically with a weak vinegar or citric acid solution if the manufacturer has no procedure of its own.

Can I use it in a hotel room?

That is what it is for, but check first - some hotels prohibit guest kettles, and a 1000 W-plus appliance can trip an older circuit if it is sharing with an air conditioner. Put it on a hard flat surface away from the edge, never on carpet or on bedding, and never leave it boiling unattended.

Can I run it from a car?

Not from a normal 12 V socket. A car accessory socket supplies a few hundred watts at most, and a mains kettle needs several times that. Anything sold as a car kettle is a different product built for 12 V, and it boils far more slowly. Do not attempt to run a mains kettle from an inverter unless the inverter is rated well above the kettle wattage.
