Product description

About this product

A bag of bedding flat in about twenty seconds.

Vacuum storage bags only do their job if the air actually comes out. Rolling one by hand leaves a third of it behind, and the little hand pumps take several minutes of work per bag. This one plugs into the wall, sits on the valve, and pulls the bag down flat while you hold it.

What you get back is space. A quilt or a stack of seasonal clothes drops to roughly a third of its size and stays there, sealed against dust, damp and insects. In coastal humidity the seal matters as much as the space, because an airtight bag is the simplest protection there is for stored fabric.

It runs on 220V, which is our supply here, and draws 35W. The body is about the size of a coffee mug, so it lives in the cupboard next to the bags rather than needing a home of its own.

Questions

Good to know

Will it work with the bags I already have?

Yes, if they have the standard round one-way valve on the front, which nearly all of them do. The pump seats over the valve and draws the bag down.

How much space does it actually save?

For soft, air-heavy things such as quilts, blankets and jumpers, around two thirds. Denser items compress far less, because what you are removing is trapped air rather than the fabric itself. A bag of towels will not shrink the way a bag of duvets does.

Does it run on our power?

Yes. It is rated AC 220V, which matches the Tanzanian supply, and it plugs straight into the wall with no adapter.

Does sealing really keep insects and damp out?

An airtight seal is a genuine barrier, and in this climate the damp matters more than the dust. One condition: whatever you store has to be completely dry before you seal it, or you have trapped the moisture in with the fabric and made the problem worse.

Can I leave things sealed for months?

Yes, that is what it is for. Check the bags every few months, since a bag can lose its vacuum slowly if the valve has picked up grit. Re-pumping takes seconds.

How is it different from the hand pump you sell?

Same job, different effort. The hand pump costs a fraction, needs no power, and is the better travel companion. This one is much faster and pulls harder, which is what you want when you are doing a whole wardrobe rather than one bag.

How do I look after it?

Keep the intake free of lint, which it will inevitably pick up from bedding. Let the motor rest between bags rather than running it back to back for a long session, and store it dry.
