Light-tackle fishing is a matter of balance. Put a 4000 reel on a 6 ft finesse rod and the outfit hangs nose-down and tires your wrist in twenty minutes; put the right reel on it and you can fish all day. The Nexave C2000S is Shimano’s entry-price answer to that, at 225 grams.
Two letters explain the model. The C means a compact body – a 2000-size spool fitted to a 1000-size chassis, so you get the capacity of the larger size at the weight of the smaller. The S means a shallow spool, which matters more than it sounds with braid: fine PE line takes up very little room, and a deep spool would need half a reel of backing underneath before the braid even started. A shallow spool skips that.
Three kilos of maximum drag and 66 cm of retrieve per crank at 5.0:1 tell you what it is for: small lures, fine leaders and fish that are caught rather than hauled. Around Dar es Salaam that means light jetty and creek work, mullet and small snapper, and the lakes and rivers inland for tilapia, small tigerfish and bass.
It carries the same G-Free body and AR-C spool as the rest of the Nexave range – Shimano’s balance and casting geometry – with a graphite body and 3+1 bearings. It is not a saltwater reel in the sealed sense, so rinse and dry it after any sea use.
