Airline headphones are thin, uncomfortable and sound poor, and the seat socket is wired so your own earbuds are useless. A Bluetooth transmitter plugs into that socket and sends the audio to the earbuds already in your pocket.
It works in both directions. In transmit mode it takes a wired source and sends it out to wireless headphones. In receive mode it does the reverse – takes audio from your phone and feeds it into something wired, like a car stereo with only an aux input, or an older set of speakers.
Two honest limitations before you buy. First, some aircraft seats still use a twin-prong socket rather than a single 3.5 mm jack, and you would need a separate two-prong adapter as well – we sell one. Second, Bluetooth audio carries a delay of roughly a fifth of a second unless both ends support a low-latency codec. On music you will never notice. Watching a film, you may see lips move before you hear the words. We cannot confirm which codecs this unit supports.
The Bluetooth 5.4 figure is the supplier’s. We have not seen a datasheet and version numbers on unbranded audio adapters tend to be generous, so we pass it on as their claim rather than ours.
