About this product
A universal travel adapter accepts the four plug shapes that cover most of the world – US flat blades, European round pins, UK square pins and Australian angled blades – and converts them to the socket you need. This one adds USB-A and USB-C ports, so a phone and a pair of earbuds charge from the adapter itself without carrying their plugs.
First, the claim we have removed. The supplier advertises compatibility with 224 countries. There are 195 countries in the world and 249 entries in the ISO list that includes territories, so the number corresponds to nothing. It is also the wrong measure: there are about fifteen plug types worldwide and an adapter like this takes four of them. We have listed the plug types instead.
Now the part that matters. We have not been given a test report showing that this adapter carries an earth connection through to its output socket, so we are telling you to assume it does not. Use it with double-insulated equipment only – anything carrying the double-square symbol, which covers phone and laptop chargers, camera chargers, shavers and USB supplies. Do not use it with a metal-bodied mains appliance such as a kettle, an iron or a garment steamer. Those depend on an earth connection: if a live conductor touches the metal body and the earth path is missing, the body sits at 230 V and nothing trips to stop it.
We are telling you this about a product we sell because the category has a documented problem. In July 2026 Electrical Safety First tested fourteen travel adapters bought from online marketplaces – six of the eight universal ones had multiple plug pins live and exposed simultaneously, and all eight failed mechanical strength testing. We are chasing test documentation from our supplier and will publish it here if it arrives.
Finally: this does not change voltage. Tanzania runs at a nominal 230 V, 50 Hz. Anything marked 100-240V or 220-240V works here on the adapter alone; anything marked 120V needs a transformer, not an adapter.
