This is the higher-specified of the two universal adapters we stock. The difference the supplier claims is an internal protection circuit – overload and short-circuit protection that the plain model does not have – along with a 12 V, 20 W DC output alongside the mains socket.
We have not tested the protection circuit and have not seen a test report for it, so treat it as a supplier claim. It is a reason to prefer this model over the plain one; it is not a reason to trust the adapter with something you would not otherwise trust it with.
The important guidance is the same as for every adapter in this class. We have no evidence that earth is carried through to the output socket, so assume it is not. Use it only with double-insulated equipment – the double-square symbol on the rating plate – which covers phone and laptop chargers, camera chargers, shavers and USB supplies. Do not use it with a metal-bodied mains appliance such as a kettle, an iron or a steamer, which rely on an earth connection to be safe.
The reason we are this direct about a product we sell: Electrical Safety First tested fourteen travel adapters from online marketplaces in July 2026, and six of the eight universal models had multiple plug pins live and exposed at once. This is a category with a documented safety record, and the responsible thing is to tell you how to use it within its limits.
It does not convert voltage. Tanzania is nominally 230 V, 50 Hz – anything rated 100-240V or 220-240V works here on the adapter alone. Anything rated 120V needs a transformer.
