The Rapid Rider is Bestway-s single-seat river tube: a 48-inch inflated ring with a mesh floor, a raised backrest and a rope around the outside. One adult sits in the middle with their backside through the mesh and their back against the rest, which is a very different experience to perching on top of a plain ring.
The mesh seat is what makes it work in this climate. Sitting on a solid vinyl floor you are dry, exposed and hot within ten minutes. Sitting in a mesh seat your lower half stays in the water the whole time, so you can float off Mbudya or Bongoyo for as long as the sunblock holds out. The backrest is inflated separately from the main ring and gives enough support to actually relax rather than balance.
Two cup holders are moulded into the rim and heavy-duty handles sit either side, which matter more than they sound – getting back into a floating tube from deep water is awkward without something solid to pull on. The grab rope runs the full way round, so several tubes can be tied together into a raft, or one can be clipped to a boat or a jetty.
It is built from Bestway Inflata-Shield vinyl, their puncture-resistant grade, and every unit is pressure-tested at the factory. Like all inflatables it is a leisure float rather than a lifesaving device, and it is not built for surf or a current – use it on a calm lake, a slow river or a sheltered bay, with an eye on the offshore wind.
