Highlights

Readable at arm-s length, wet

A coach-s stopwatch has one job the phone in your pocket cannot do: tell you the time at a glance, with wet hands, in full sun, without unlocking anything. The large LCD and big rubber buttons are the whole design.

Large LCD

Big digits you can read at arm-s length in bright sun, not a small dial you have to squint at.

Split and lap timing

Take a split without stopping the clock - the standard way to time a swim set or interval training.

Alarm and hourly chime

Doubles as a training-session timer and a plain clock between efforts.

Neck lanyard

Round your neck, not in a pocket. A stopwatch you have to dig out has already missed the start.

Product description

About this product

This is a conventional handheld coaching stopwatch: a large LCD chronograph on a lanyard, with the buttons laid out the way anyone who has used one before will expect. It times to fractions of a second, takes splits without stopping the running clock, and works as an ordinary clock and alarm the rest of the time.

Split timing is what separates a stopwatch from a phone timer. Timing a swimmer over eight lengths, you want each length recorded without ever stopping the total. On a stopwatch that is one button, pressed with a thumb, without looking. On a phone it is a fiddle, and by the time you have done it the swimmer is at the far wall.

It is water-resistant, which is the practical requirement rather than a luxury. Poolside means splash every few minutes. A football or rugby touchline in the long rains means a soaking. Neither should end a stopwatch. It is splash- and rain-resistant, not a dive watch: do not swim with it or hold it under a tap.

Runs on a standard button cell, and the display stays on all the time – watch for the digits fading, which is the usual first sign the battery is going rather than any fault in the watch.

Questions

Good to know

Can I take it in the pool with me?

No. It is water-resistant to splash and rain - poolside, touchline, a downpour. It is not a dive watch and is not built to be submerged or swum with.

What is the difference between split and lap timing?

A split records the elapsed time at a point without stopping the clock, so you see the cumulative time at each length or lap. Lap timing records each interval separately. This watch takes splits while the main clock continues, which is what coaching a set needs.

Is it better than using my phone?

For timing anything, yes. Big buttons you can press by feel with wet hands, digits you can read across a pool deck in the sun, and no lock screen between you and the start. A phone is fine for one timed effort and hopeless for a session.

How do I change the battery?

It takes a standard button cell. Undo the small screws on the back cover, note which way up the old cell sits, and replace it with the same type. Make sure the seal is seated properly when you close it or the water resistance is gone.

What does the hourly chime do?

It sounds a short beep on the hour. Useful for keeping a training session to schedule; easily turned off if it annoys you.

Will the display survive strong sun?

The LCD reads well in bright light, but like all LCDs it should not be left baking on a car dashboard for hours. Prolonged heat is what darkens an LCD permanently.

Can I use it for interval training?

Yes. Use the alarm as a session timer and the split function to record each effort. It is a common choice for swim coaches, athletics and team-sport training in schools and clubs.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
