About this product

The compact canvas tent: same 200g TC cotton as its larger sibling, in a boat-shaped shell for two or three.

The boat shape is the point. A low, tapered profile presents less surface to wind than a square tent of the same floor area, and it sheds rain off the curve rather than pooling it. It also packs more compactly than a cabin shape.

The fabric is 200g TC cotton, a polycotton blend that breathes rather than condensing, insulates so the inside stays cooler at midday, and is noticeably quieter in rain than polyester. The floor is 210D Oxford and the frame 6.4 mm solid fiberglass.

Pitched it is 245 x 145 x 120 cm, which is two adults with gear or three at a squeeze.

Good to know

What is TC cotton and why does it matter?

TC is a polycotton blend. Unlike pure polyester it breathes, so moisture passes out through the weave rather than condensing on the inside wall. It also insulates, meaning cooler inside at midday and warmer at night, and it is much quieter in wind and rain.

What does the boat shape do?

It keeps the profile low and tapered, so wind slides over rather than pushing against a flat wall, and rain runs off the curve instead of pooling. It also packs down more compactly than a cabin-shaped tent of the same floor area.

How is it different from the FX-2101?

Same fabric, same floor, same 6.4 mm rods. This is the smaller boat-shaped version at 245 x 145 cm for two or three; the FX-2101 is 285 x 210 cm for four or five and weighs 5.86 kg.

Does it really sleep three?

Two adults fit comfortably with gear. Three is a squeeze with bags left outside. At 120 cm you sit up and kneel but do not stand.

Does canvas need weathering before first use?

Many cotton and polycotton tents benefit from being pitched and wetted once before a trip, so the fibres swell and close the needle holes at the seams. Worth doing in your garden first.

How do I look after it?

Dry it fully, always, because cotton left damp will mildew. Brush dirt off dry rather than scrubbing wet. Sponge marks with cool water and mild soap, never detergent or a machine wash.
