About this product
The commonest annoyance in soft-plastic fishing is a bait that will not stay where you put it. Cast a Texas-rigged worm a dozen times and on a plain hook it gradually slides down the shank until it is bunched around the bend, at which point it swims badly and hooks nothing. The 39121NP solves that with a Z-lock shoulder – a sharp 90-degree kink just behind the eye that grips the head of the bait and holds it in place.
The rest is the classic worm-hook geometry: an offset shank and a round bend, designed so the point can be buried in the plastic for a weedless presentation and still come clear on the strike. The wire is 1X Fine – one size lighter than standard – which drives home easily and suits soft plastics fished on moderate tackle.
The point is Mustad Opti-Angle needle point with 4.3 UltraPoint and the steel is Nor-Tempered, in a black nickel finish. Mustad list the pattern in size 1/0 on their own site, with a 13 mm gap on 0.98 mm wire, five to a pack.
In Tanzania it is a lure hook for the lakes, dams and rivers – bass, tigerfish, Nile perch and catfish on plastics – and it works inshore for snapper, grunter and queenfish fished around structure.
