About this product

The EMR25 does two jobs that camping usually needs at once. It is a 12,000 mAh power bank with a USB-C port that charges in and out at up to 18 W, and it is an electronic mosquito repeller that heats a repellent mat to clear a zone around it.

The repelling works by heat rather than flame or spray: a mat sits over an element that reaches up to 180 C, releasing the repellent steadily over about six hours per mat. Nitecore rates the protection zone at 11 to 16 feet. There is no smoke, no smell of burning coil, and nothing to knock over in a tent.

The battery cartridge is replaceable, and the unit can also run from an external supply. Rated runtime is 12 hours.

Good to know

Does it actually work against Dar mosquitoes?

It works the way all mat-based repellers do: it creates a treated zone of still air around it. On a sheltered veranda or in a tent porch that is very effective. In a strong sea breeze the zone blows away, so place it upwind of where you are sitting.

How long does one mat last?

About six hours per mat, so an evening. A pack of 30 refill mats covers a long season of use.

Is it safe indoors or in a tent?

It is designed for it, and there is no flame and no smoke. Keep normal ventilation, keep it out of reach of small children, and do not cover the heating surface.

Can I charge a phone and repel at the same time?

Yes, that is the point of the design. Doing both draws the battery down faster than either alone.

Does it replace a mosquito net?

No. For sleeping, a net is still the right protection, particularly with malaria in mind. Treat this as comfort while you are awake and outdoors.

What is the replaceable cartridge for?

The battery is a cartridge rather than a sealed pack, so it can be swapped when it ages rather than retiring the whole unit.

Can I use it in the rain?

IPX5 covers splashes and light rain. Do not leave it out in a downpour or set it in a puddle.
