A built-in 7,800 mAh battery runs it for 10 hours, and the heating element reaches 165 C to release repellent from a mat over a zone Nitecore rates at 11 to 16 feet.

There is no flame and no smoke, which is what makes it usable on a table where people are eating, or in a tent porch where a coil would be unpleasant and unsafe.

Good to know

How is it different from the EMR25?

The EMR25 is bigger, holds 12,000 mAh and doubles as a power bank. The EMR40 just repels, for 10 hours, in a smaller and cheaper package. If you already carry a power bank, this is the one to buy.

How long does one mat last?

Around six hours, so an evening. Keep a pack of refill mats with it.

Does it work in a breeze?

Less well, like every mat-based repeller: the treated air blows away. Set it upwind of where you are sitting, or use it somewhere sheltered.

Is it safe around children and food?

There is no flame and no smoke. Keep it out of small hands because the heating surface gets hot, and do not put anything on top of it.

Does it replace a mosquito net at night?

No. For sleeping, use a net. This is for the hours you are awake outdoors.

How long does it take to charge?

A few hours over USB-C on a 5V/2A source.

Can I leave it out in the rain?

IPX5 handles splashes and light rain, not a downpour. Bring it in overnight.
