About this product
This is a single white cricket stump, 27 in (68.6 cm) tall.
Under the Laws of Cricket, the tops of the stumps stand 28 inches – 71.12 cm – above the playing surface, and a set of three spans 9 inches. This one is 27 in, which makes it close to full size – just under the 28 in regulation. Junior dimensions are deliberately left to national governing bodies rather than fixed in the Laws, which is why shorter practice and junior stumps are made in several sizes.
Selling them singly is the practical part. Stumps do not fail as a set – one gets split by a yorker, one gets snapped by a throw from the deep, and the other five are fine. A club that can only buy sets of three ends up either replacing everything or playing with a mismatched wicket.
White is the standard colour and it is functional: it shows against a green outfield and, more importantly, it is visible to the umpire at the far end of the pitch for run-out and stumping decisions.
The top is grooved to take a standard bail. If you are mixing stumps from different sets, check that the grooves are at the same height – a stump slightly taller or shorter than its neighbours makes the bails sit crooked, and a crooked bail either will not fall or falls on its own.
Store them dry. Wooden stumps left in a damp bag swell and the grooves change shape.
