It is worth being clear about what Kashmir willow is, because it is often written about as though it were a compromise. It is a different timber – denser, harder and heavier for the same volume than English willow. That means it returns less energy to the ball, so it does not carry as far. It also means it is tougher, takes far less knocking in, tolerates damp and neglect better, and costs a small fraction as much.
