Highlights

The improver's frame

Real weight and a control balance - not a beginner's racket.

305 g strung

Genuine frame weight, which is what gives stability against a ball hit hard at you.

105 square inches

Forgiving enough to be comfortable, small enough to keep the ball in when you swing fully.

Head-light balance

Weight toward the hand, so the racket is quick and the control is yours rather than the frame's.

Not the tour Pro Staff

It carries the name but shares nothing with the Pro Staff v14. A recreational frame, honestly.

Product description

About this product

Rxt 105 Tennis Racket – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The Pro Staff Precision RXT 105 is the frame in this group that a regular club player would actually choose.

The reason is weight. At 305 g strung it is fifty grams heavier than the Hyper Hammer and fourteen heavier than the Tour Slam Lite, and that mass is what gives a racket stability when a ball arrives with pace on it. A very light frame gets pushed around by a heavy ball; a 305 g frame holds its line. The balance is 2 points head-light, so the weight sits toward the hand and the control belongs to you rather than to the frame’s momentum.

105 square inches is the sensible middle of the head size range – forgiving enough to be comfortable on a mishit, contained enough that a full swing still lands in court. A constant 21.3 mm beam keeps the frame response even across the stringbed rather than stiffening toward the throat.

One thing worth saying plainly: this carries the Pro Staff name but it is not related to the Pro Staff v14 tour frame. It is a well-made recreational racket, and it is a real step up from the beginner frames in this range – but the name is heritage rather than pedigree, and you should know that before you buy.

Supplied pre-strung, 16 by 19, at 27.25 inches. And a note on codes: the number WR088110 that appears on some listings is not Wilson’s. Theirs is WR17130, article WR171310U.

Questions

Good to know

What does head size change?

How much the racket helps you against how much control you have. A bigger head means more power and a bigger sweet spot that punishes mishits less - which is why beginners should start oversize. A smaller head means more control and more feedback, which is what a player with a full swing needs to keep the ball in. Under 100 square inches is control; 105 to 110 is forgiving; above 110 is maximum help.

Is this a tour racket?

No, and we would rather say so. It carries the Pro Staff name but shares nothing with the Pro Staff v14 tour frame. It is a well-made recreational racket and a real step up from a beginner frame - the name is heritage rather than pedigree.

Why does the extra weight matter?

Stability. At 305 g this holds its line against a ball hit hard at you, where a 254 g frame gets pushed around. That is the single biggest practical difference between a beginner frame and an improver frame.

Should I buy this or the Hyper Hammer?

Different players. The Hyper Hammer is light and head-heavy for someone with a short swing who needs free power. This is heavier and head-light for someone with a full swing who needs control. If you are already swinging properly, this one.

When do strings need replacing?

Long before they break. Strings lose tension and elasticity from the day they go in - the stringbed goes dead while looking perfect. The old rule still holds: restring as many times a year as you play per week. Twice a week, twice a year. At minimum once a year regardless, and sooner here, because heat accelerates tension loss badly.

What does string gauge mean?

How thick the string is. It is quoted in millimetres and in a US gauge number where higher means thinner - 1.20 mm is 17 gauge, 1.30 mm is 16. Thinner bites the ball more for extra spin and feel, and breaks sooner. Thicker lasts considerably longer and feels firmer and more controlled, with less spin. 1.25 mm is the sensible middle.

How does the climate here affect equipment?

Heat is hard on strings - polyester loses tension fastest of all string types and heat accelerates it sharply, so expect to restring more often than a European schedule suggests. Never leave a racket in a car boot. Humidity is hard on grips and on natural gut, which absorbs moisture and softens. And pressurised balls go dead faster in heat, opened or not.
